Mayim Bialik announces Celebrity Jeopardy! contestants

On Tuesday, August 23, Mayim Bialik shared the contestants who will play on Celebrity Jeopardy! Some fans are calling out the host for the announcement. They slammed the “lack of variety” the special has compared to when original host Alex Trebek fronted the series.

The popular series is back after it was hosted by Alex for 23 years. Sadly, the host passed away from his long battle with cancer in 2020. Two years later, Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings were announced as the permanent hosts of Jeopardy! They will continue to split duties for the regular game show and its specials.

Season 38 of Jeopardy! wrapped on July 31, 2022. Production for the new season has already begun. The show will start airing Season 39 on September 12. In the meantime, Mayim shared the news of the contestants who will play on Celebrity Jeopardy! The new spinoff series will air on Sundays on ABC and will not interfere with the regular series.

The primetime series will feature eight celebrities behind the podiums. On Tuesday, the trailer for Celebrity Jeopardy! announced Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu, Marvel actor Simu Lu, comedian Illiza Schlesinger, and Ray Romano. Other celebrities include The Office’s B.J. Novak, Superbad Michael Cera, Whose Line host Aisha Tyler, WNBA star Candace Parker, and comedian Patton Oswalt.

Mayim Bialik wore a white lab coat and her signature eyeglasses in the new promo. She had a big smile on her face as she announced the cast list. The game board lit up behind her as she read the names.

“It’s the OG Jeopardy, with celebrities,” Mayim Bialik said to the camera. “Let’s hope they’ve been reading more than screenplays.”

Fans “never heard” of these celebrities

The Jeopardy! fans aren’t impressed. They claim they “never heard” of any of these celebrities. Others don’t like seeing Mayim Bialik hosting the primetime special. They took to the Jeopardy! Facebook group to share their thoughts.

  • “Am I the only one who has never heard of any of these celebrities? Just Patton Oswalt and Ray Romano.”
  • “I know Ray Romano, who are the rest?”
  • “Never heard of them.”
  • “Only know Ray Romano. Slim pickings!”

These celebrities are putting their smarts to the test for charity. Some fans don’t want to criticize the show and would rather see how it plays out — sort of, speak. Other fans said this show is a good fit for the Blossom alum. She’s more in her element since she gets to mingle with celebrities.

  1. How do people not know these celebrities? Aisha Tyler has been on 2 crazy popular shows FRIENDS and Archer, Simu Liu is from the MCU, like do people that watch jeopardy live under a rock???

    1. Apparently I do!! Ray Romano is the only one I’m familiar with. I don’t care for her style of hosting so I can skip this “celebrity” show!!

      1. Agree. I only know Ray Romano. Never heard of the others. Have asked people I know and they haven’t either. Not everyone watches TV all the time, or movies. Oh well- besides she has nothing to do with who is chosen to compete

    3. I agree! I recognize half of the list. And probably will recognize them, not knowing their names!
      With Illiza and Aisha, it’ll be great! They are super competitive–as well as crazy funny! And then Ray Romano and Patton Oswalt, they’ll bring the funny, too! It’s fantastic that they’re doing this!

    5. I have watched Jeopardy from the beginning and have lived it! I had high hopes for the show but Mayim Bialek has been a major disappointment and the line up for Celebrity Jeopardy is pathetic! Who ARE these people? Ray Romano and Patton Oswalt are the only ones I have ever heard of!
      The show should have one host – Ken Jennings. And celebrities people have heard of. So ruining Alex Trebek’s legacy

      1. Apparently some of you don’t know how the show works. The host does not pick out who is going to be on the show. Some people are just more well rounded, reading, watching the news, etc., which gives them a better knowledge of people and things.
        My take is that if you don’t like someone, don’t watch them.
        I personally watch all of Jeopardy for the show with the answers and questions, not for the host.
        I loved seeing Alex Trebek for the whole time he was on, however, the show is the reason I watch.

      2. I thought Jeopardy would have chosen the contestants. Why do all of you go off on Mayim? She has a wonderful, bubbly personality and genuinely cares for the contestants unlike Jennings whose personality is that of a wallflower or turnip!

  3. How can you not know who most of these celebrities are. I love Mayim and all her ventures. I think there is a small group of mean people who just don’t like anything Mayim says regardless of the content. She is doing great.

  4. Why is everyone hating on Myim Bialik, I think she does an awesome job!! I am familiar with most of these celebrities and although I do miss our beloved Alex Trebek I’m so happy the show carries on in his memory.

  5. I think people complain because they can. Don’t know why Mayim isn’t well liked. She acts like the super smart person that she is. As for the celebrities, I know who they all are and I do live under a rock! Come on people

  9. She had silly habits and a screechy voice and she talks too fast and rushes it. That’s why. I like the way ken Jennings is relaxed and seems like he is enjoying it more and more soothing voice.

  11. I know the celebrities that will participate on celebrity Jeopardy. Some haven’t been seen for a while, but Ms Bialik isn’t responsible for the selection of the players for the game. I think that the fans should see how it goes before they judge the program. There may be hidden Einsteins in this group.

  13. I don’t know who these “Jeopardy Fans” are but they need to get over it. Alex is gone and the show will NEVER be exactly the same! If you are going to
    nit-pick at everything just quit watching!!
    I have watched this show a long time and happen to like the new hosts!

  16. I do not watch much tv and the only name I really recognize is Ray Romano. No one can replace Alex, but the current hosts bring their own style to Jeopardy.
