Due to his battle with anxiety, Jonah has moved back in with his parents so they can give him some extra support. However, it didn’t take long before they violated his privacy.
In an Instagram post, TLC shared the clip. In the video, Trent and Amber sit down with Jonah’s girlfriend, Ashley. Trent admits to Ashley, “We became really nosy parents. We took Jonah’s phone.”
Then, he says, “We read messages between you guys.”
In a confessional, Ashley says, “The fact that they went through his phone, it kind of scared me. One little thing could trigger anything.”
When Trent, Amber, and Ashley are sitting at the table together, Amber says, “It is just not going to work.”

In the comments section of the Instagram post with this clip, fans are appalled. One 7 Little Johnstons fan says, “They should apologize and promise never to cross that line of privacy ever again!”
Another one adds, “Oh no!!! Isn’t he in his 20’s?? I normally love you guys but not loving this privacy infringement!”
Some fans are calling Trent and Amber Johnston controlling. One calls the parents out for not respecting their son.
A few fans even say that they want the show off the air or that they won’t be watching it anymore due to the way Amber and Trent treat Jonah.

I’ve always had a issue with how they do their kids.i mean really they are grown. And out of the house they have no say in what they do. Even with him being back in their house yes they went to far with reading his privet messages. They should just help him and suport him with his issues. Not be reading his messages. That in is self Is totally disrespectful. But I love the show and I love how the kids let them know it’s our lives.
Amber and Trent really love their children, and want the best for them. Jonah has anxiety and has showed some reasons for concern. He’s had brain surgery in the past. I know he’s in his 20’s, but I see why his parents are trying to figure out what’s going on with him. Better to be safe than sorry! Better to be more concerned than not! Jonah will understand why they looked through his phone later on.
Amber and Trent are worried about Jona. We don’t know the entire back story. Do I think they should have secretly read his texts between him and Ashley….no I don’t. However, I stand by the parents for loving and caring enough to try to help him. I wish I had parents like them. Some parents don’t give a rip and that’s why we have such chaos in the world today.
This is ridiculous. Trent & Amber are way to dang controlling, and alwàys have been! Yes, Jonah’s home for a bit, but taking his phone & reading their texts to each other is a major invasion of his & Ashley’s. What if they’d shared intimate pics with each other? Trent’s up on there looking at private pics of Ashley, & Ambers about to catch an eyeful of Jonah. What’s this doing to alleviate his issues? Nothing. it’s just like them thinking it’s their place to “allow” Elizabeth’s boyfriend to live with her, or not, when she’s in her 20s, left home like 2 years ago, and fully supports herself financially. They’re so ridiculous.
