‘DWTS’ Cheryl Burke’s Profound Abortion Story: ‘No Shame’
Since the Supreme Court opted to overturn Roe v. Wade, many celebrities are coming forward with their own abortion stories. Dancing With The Stars pro Cheryl Burke is one of the most recent stars to come forward.
Cheryl has spent many years in the world of ballroom dance and admits she had many unhappy experiences in her youth. But in her eyes, her choice to have an abortion was one of the best decisions she ever made.

Cheryl Burke gets vulnerable with her online followers as she recounts her abortion story
Cheryl Burke always said that she would like to be a mother someday. She just wants control over the timing and her own body. That’s why she doesn’t regret her decision to have an abortion.
The 38-year-old dancer opened up about her journey on Instagram in a lengthy video.
“I’m saddened by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade that guaranteed a woman’s right to choose…” she captioned her video before diving in.
In the video, Cheryl describes how her life would be very different if she didn’t have access to safe, legal abortion.
“If it wasn’t for places like Planned Parenthood, I would be a mother—and I wouldn’t have been a great mother,” the professional dancer stated on Instagram. “I got an abortion while I was going through a really huge transition in my life.”
The DWTS pro says she was using birth control during the time, but an accident happened and she got pregnant.
“I was two weeks pregnant when I got an abortion,” Cheryl said. “I remember rolling up to Planned Parenthood with picketers holding anti-abortion signs and that alone was traumatic. And on top of it all, the whole process is traumatic.”
Near the end of the video, she adds that she feels no shame about her decision and feels happy she did it. Many of Cheryl’s followers were largely supportive, including currently pregnant DWTS castmate, Sharna Burgess.

For many years, Cheryl Burke has struggled with addiction and mental health issues. But she’s always been very open and honest with fans about her demons. And that’s why many fans love and respect her.
Right now, she’s going through a divorce with her ex-husband, Matthew Lawrence. They seemed happy together and even tried couples counseling. But it seems that it just wasn’t meant to be.
Fans hope that Cheryl continues to be an advocate for other women and are so thankful she shared her story.
