Is Buzzy Cohen In The Running For ‘Jeopardy!’ Host?
Jeopardy! fans have been waiting for the network to announce who the permanent replacement for Alex Trebek will be. While Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings have been splitting the hosting duties, someone has to be chosen soon. Now, Buzzy Cohen’s name has been thrown into the mix of possibilities.
‘Jeopardy!’ Host To Be Announced Soon
Executive producer Michael Davies said that a decision regarding the Jeopardy! host would be announced: “very, very soon.” It has been a rocky road to find the next host for the decades-long game show. Last summer, Mike Richards was named the full-time host. Richards resigned from the position after some less-than-tasteful jokes he told on a podcast resurfaced online.
Since then, Bialik and Jennings have been splitting the daily hosting duties of the syndicated program. Bialik also hosts primetime Jeopardy! specials for the time being. Fans have expressed likes and dislikes about both hosts. At times, they have berated Bialik on social media for simple mistakes.

During an interview with the press, Davies acknowledged that there has been some scandal and awkwardness in the search. However, it will be coming to an end soon.
Right now, both Bialik and Jennings’ initial contracts with the show are set to expire soon. On top of that, Bialik’s Call Me Kat is set to premiere in the fall and is slated for 22 episodes. So, a decision needs to be made soon, especially because the producers have big plans for Jeopardy!
“But with all of our plans for Jeopardy! — which is more Jeopardy!, not less, more versions — we’re going to need multiple hosts to represent the entire audience,” Davies stated, “to represent the entire country, in order to take this franchise forward.”
Buzzy Cohen Teases About Hosting
The decision isn’t only between Bialik and Jennings though, it seems. Buzzy Cohen has also potentially thrown his name in the mix.
Cohen previously competed on Jeopardy! and hosted at some point too. During his time on the show, he won $164,603 over the span of nine games. He was a controversial competitor who often took the lead and used his final responses to be catty towards Trebek. Some fans adored this, others hated it. So, he has mixed reviews among fans.
He returned during the Tournament of Champions in 2017, winning $250,000. In 2019, he appeared again in the Jeopardy! All-Star Games. After the death of Trebek, he returned to host the Tournament of Champions in 2021. A recent tweet from Cohen made fans think that he may be returning once again.
People were quick to weigh in with a few asking Buzzy if this was an announcement that he was in the running for a hosting spot. He didn’t confirm or deny it. One fan commented, “Buzzy being named host would bring me back to Jeopardy. They lost me with all the shenanigans after Alex’s death. Don’t like MB or KJ. Buzzy is great.” A few others showed their approval as well.
For now, you can still catch Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings on Jeopardy! until a final decision is made. Who do you hope will be the next host?
