Former ‘DWTS’ Contestant Says Tyra Banks is ‘Polarizing’
Dancing With The Stars viewers tend to have pretty strong feelings about Tyra Banks.
The model began serving as the show’s hostess starting in Season 29. Many fans did miss Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews but were willing to give Tyra Banks a chance. But at the end of the day, they just don’t feel like she delivered.
Many members of the show’s cast and crew tend to avoid directly commenting on Tyra’s hosting abilities. They just don’t want to get involved in the drama.
But now, one Season 30 contestant acknowledged that Tyra Banks is at least “polarizing” to DWTS fans. Read on to learn more.
DWTS contestants don’t seem to mind Tyra Banks, but viewers sure do
Cody Rigsby and his professional dance partner Cheryl Burke came in third place on Dancing With The Stars Season 30. And during his run on the show, Cody developed some opinions on how Tyra Banks ran the show.
“Tyra, I feel like was such a polarizing figure,” the Peloton instructor told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “Either you loved her as a host or people were sometimes mad about it. I don’t know. She was great. It was so iconic meeting her and she was such a lovely person so if she wants to do the job, I hope she’s back. If she doesn’t, then somebody else.”
And as for the platform shift to Disney+, Cody Rigsby isn’t very optimistic.
“I think streaming Dancing With The Stars is going to be interesting because — I don’t know how it’s going play out but it’s going to be interesting. I always feel like the fan base is specific and I don’t know if there will people that will stream,” the 35-year-old said. “But hey, Disney executives know more than I will.”
Do you agree with Cody Rigsby’s assessment? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.
DWTS may have a new host for Season 31
It’s definitely no secret that Tyra Banks hasn’t been wildly popular with fans. There are rumors that she’s been pushed out amid the backstage shuffle and won’t return for Season 31.
“There is no official decision on who will be hosting next season but it doesn’t look like Tyra will be back,” an insider allegedly told The Sun back in April. “Which would be a network decision, not her decision.”
“Production has been a mess, with no clear direction of where [the show] was going, which is why certain producers have been axed in recent months,” the source said about the platform switch “The mix of the behind-the-scenes chaos and the historically low ratings ultimately was the nail in the coffin. ABC didn’t feel it was worth the investment anymore, but didn’t want to drop [the show] as a whole.”
