Why Was ‘Weakest Link’ Finale Deemed Worst In Show History?
The Weakest Link finale is the worst in the show’s history. That’s what the show’s fans have to say. They slammed the “unintelligent” contestants on social media. The game show first returned in 2020 with Glee alum Jane Lynch as the new host. The rebooted program aired on NBC and wrapped up on Monday, June 13.
During that episode, eight new contestants competed for a prize of up to $1 million. Yet, they had trouble achieving up to that amount. The winner ended up with $54,000. Some fans of the beloved game show are calling it the worst episode they’ve ever seen. Read on to learn about the controversy and to see more.
Fans slam “stupid” Weakest Link contestants
Fan looked forward to the Season 2 finale of Weakest Link. None of the contestants could reach that million-dollar prize. One of them ended up with $54,000, while others scored a few thousand. At the end of the show, it was left to Dan, Jon, and Ty to compete for the coveted prize. They could win $500,000, but they only walked away with $2,500.
This was a huge step up from the previous game, in which they won nothing. Fans of the Weakest Link took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the finale. Most of them were hoping for something epic to happen — like a contestant walking away with the million-dollar prize. In a shocking turn of events, they slammed the “stupid” contestants for their poor winnings.
- “That would’ve been $100k alone.”
- “This might be the worst finale round ever.”
- “In the last round of @NBCWeakestLink I was able to answer 6 in a row correctly on my own.”
- “They banked $2,500 that round.”
- “Who needs Google Maps to find their way to a correct answer?”
- “So you make it to the final round only to get no answers right?!”
Weakest Link Season 2 premiered in March 2022. The current season had 13 episodes. With the high-stakes game, fans were hoping for big prizes. Unfortunately, the finale didn’t go as planned.
Jane Lynch-hosted game show gets new life
NBC’s Weakest Link is based on the original British game show, hosted by Anne Robinson and narrated by Jon Briggs. The first episode aired on August 14, 2000. It first aired as a daytime game show and then ended up in primetime due to its ever-growing popularity. There was even a version with celebrities playing for charity and a modified format.
On the show, whoever has the most votes against them must leave. They were then declared the Weakest Link. The show keeps going until there are two contestants left, in which they battle it out for the prized bank money. What are your thoughts on the finale? Sound off below in the comment section.

The voting would be much more fair, and intriguing, if contestants who mistakenly vote for the strongest link in that round (instead of trying to weed out the weakest link) would then have their vote count against themselves for so egregiously proferring their opinion.
I loved that show!!
