Geoffrey Paschel Motion Delayed, New Trial Date Revealed?
Geoffrey Paschel’s motion for a new trial will have to wait a little longer. The former 90 Day Fiance star was ready to go back to court today but that has since been postponed. His love, Varya Malina confirmed the news via social media earlier.
Geoffrey Paschel’s Initial Day In Court
Viewers first met Geoffrey in Season 4 of Before the 90 Days. He was eagerly pursuing Varya who resided in Russia and was ready to fly over and meet her. His end goal was for the two to end up engaged and for her to move back to Tennessee with him. Unfortunately, he also had to tell her about his troubled past. Yet, she still was willing to work through his past and move forward. They struggled some and he returned home empty-handed. Luckily, he had his best friend, Mary to pick up his broken heart but Varya decided to fly to America to claim her man. In the end, they realized how much they loved one another and got engaged. Fast forward to February 2022 and Geoffrey was in court on a bevy of past charges.
Back in October 2021, he had been found guilty of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and interfering with emergency calls. He was facing anywhere between eight to thirty years in jail and was visibly shaken. Both Mary and Varya were there when the verdict was read. Shortly after, his son, Dakota went on Geoffrey’s Instagram to plead for his father, asking for money to be sent to assist in helping with donations. He wanted to get his father the best help possible. Geoffrey had gotten a motion for a new trial which was set for today but it was sadly delayed. Has it been rescheduled?
Motion Delayed- What Next?
Varya revealed that Geoffrey Paschel’s motion for a new trial, scheduled for today, has been postponed. According to Starcasm, this is what Varya had to say: “The motion for the new trial was delayed for a variety of reasons, which nobody had time to explain us [sic], and I doubt that cared.” The reason for the motion for a new trial was Paschel’s lawyer believed some photos that had been allowed were actually from another date. Therefore, they should not be applicable. His lawyer, Gregory Issacs also added: “We have also set forth in our motion for a new trial that we don’t feel the evidence was sufficient to convict Geoffrey of aggravated kidnapping under the requirements of Tennessee law.”
When Varya initially made her Instagram videos sharing the postponement news, she did not have a new date. However, since she posted, a new one has officially been set. Paschel will be back in court on May 26th according to a court clerk rep. As to what will happen from there is anybody’s guess. So far, he has been officially sentenced to eighteen years for kidnapping and assault and he will be facing the same judge he had before.
