‘1000-Lb. Sisters:’ Is The Show Real Or Staged?
1000-Lb. Sisters isn’t on TV right now, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t questioning the integrity. A group of Reddit users are discussing if the show is real or staged. Some believe that what fans watch isn’t real at all.
1000-Lb. Sisters, real or staged?
While fans anxiously await an official Season 4 announcement, some are starting to scrutinize whether the show is actually real or is it stage. One viewer took to Reddit for answers.
“Is this show staged? they start the question. “Meaning, do the producers deliberately put Tammy in a weird situation, get her drunk, have her screw with random guys and then film the consequences? I mean I know at a certain level the camera and editing obscure the ‘reality’ of the show but seriously are the producers deliberately enabling Tammy’s behavior and I’m an idiot or is this for real human behavior?”
Of course, some commented agreeing and some think it’s very real. However, one user has a very good point. They remind fans that any time the sisters go anywhere everyone has to be miced and the cameras have to be ready. That is not a quick or easy process. So, in that case, some of it does have to be staged.
“Every time you see them go anywhere, or a doctor come to their house, or anything like that, it’s all been pre-arranged. Think about it, all. Those people are miced up and they have cameras ready to go. That doesn’t happen on a whim.”
Is Tammy too crazy?
Others though think that Tammy and Amy are simply too rogue to be scripted.
“Tammy does exactly what she wants to do. As far as the filming goes, the camera people definitely film the entire family from low unflattering angles,” one user writes.
“They come to my hometown quite a lot and it always makes local news. For the most part, what you see is how they are. There’s some staging involved, but what doesn’t involve staging nowadays,” another adds.
Of course, there’s no way of knowing unless one of the stars speaks up. However, it’s important to note that there is always a bit of staging in every show. There have even been reports of it in other TLC shows like My 600-Lb. Life.
This isn’t the first time
This actually isn’t the first time fans have presumed a lot of the show could be staged. In fact, some suspect that production made Chris Combs wear padding under his shirt to make himself look bigger before his weight loss surgery.
What brought them to this conclusion? In photos before his surgery, Chris looks rather big. However, right after his surgery, his photos looked much smaller. While this is the goal of the surgery, fans aren’t sure about the timeline. Some think not enough time passed between the surgery and the drastic weight loss.
Like with the rest of the show, this certainly could’ve happened considering his surgery was such a big part of the storyline in Season 3. The added padding could’ve made it far more dramatic and interesting.
