Isabel Roloff Shares Mateo’s Medical Condition She Never Talked About
Isabel Roloff was feeling very open to sharing the details about Mateo’s medical condition that she hadn’t discussed previously. Turns out, Isabel and Jacob’s son did not have an easy start to his life. He had a medical condition that caused breastfeeding to be a lot more challenging than Isabel Roloff expected it to be.
Fortunately, Isabel and Jacob were able to make the choices they thought best for their son and get him to a place where feeding became much easier for him. What medical condition plagued the little guy so early in life? Keep reading for the details.
Isabel Roloff opens up about Mateo’s medical condition
In a very candid Instagram post, Isabel Roloff opens up about the respect she has for breastfeeding. She admits that being able to nourish her son with her own body is not something she’ll ever take for granted. Likewise, she believes being able to breastfeed her son has just showed her how “bada**” her body could truly be.
Breastfeeding was not something that came as easily or naturally as Isabel Roloff expected it to though. Turns out, Mateo really struggled with feeding from the time he was born. He had a medical condition getting in the way.
Isabel Roloff explained: “We had a bit of a rough start in the beginning of our breastfeeding journey due to Mateo having a severe tongue tie, which made it hard for him to gain weight in the beginning.”
It was getting frustrating for both of us. I think I was prepared for a lot of aspects around birth, motherhood, newborns, but I was probably the least informed on breastfeeding. It seems as though it should just come naturally and be a piece of cake, when really, both mom and baby are learning a new skill and that’s no easy feat. It takes time to figure it all out.”
When did they get his tongue tie fixed?
When Mateo was just two months old, Isabel and Jacob Roloff were able to get his tongue tie reversed. She continued to explain: “Now Mateo is growing like a weed and I’m grateful that he is able to breastfeed a lot easier these days.”
Isabel added that it took a while for them to get to a place where she could feed Mateo in public. She, however, will always really cherish feeding him outside in nature.
“When I look down at his precious, growing face I am reminded of how fleeting these moments are.” She penned. Isabel Roloff concluded her post by asking her followers to share their own breastfeeding experiences with her. She, however, was careful to clarify that she does believe fed is best. So, her intent was not to shame anyone who couldn’t breastfeed.
