In an old Instagram post that has recently resurfaced, Jessa Seewald praised her father Jim Bob Duggar as a “great lover” among many other things. The post was intended to be a sweet Father’s Day tribute to Jim Bob Duggar. But, her word choice in the caption left followers of her family squirming and feeling extremely uncomfortable.

Jessa Seewald praises daddy as “great lover”

Katie Joy of Without a Crystal Ball shared this old post of Jessa Seewald’s from Father’s Day back in 2015. The post came just after Jim Bob forced Jessa to do an interview with FOX to defend her brother, Josh.

You’re such an awesome example of what a man should be — seeking after God, lover of your wife, caring and affectionate towards your kids, & always looking for ways to serve God and have fun with your family.”

Jessa Seewald added that she was lucky to have Jim Bob Duggar as a father. The caption also reveals Jessa and Ben were pregnant at the time this tribute was posted. And, she couldn’t wait for her baby to meet Jim Bob.

The tribute leaves Duggar fans feeling uncomfortable

In the comments of Katie Joy’s Instagram post, followers of the Duggar family admit they couldn’t “roll their eyes hard enough” at the post. Many, however, admit their eyes were quickly drawn to the word “lover” and they had a hard time seeing anything else in the post. Feeling extremely uncomfortable, many of Katie Joy’s followers admit “lover” was the last word they would ever use to describe their father. Here’s some of what fans had to say about it.

  • “‘Lover of your wife’??? I would never use that to describe my dad but mkay, Jessa.”
  • “He probably wrote it for her.”
  • “Lover of your wife. That’s super creepy to say about your dad.”
  • “Just the sight of him makes me throw up in my mouth and makes my skin crawl.”

Many followers of the Duggar family have often questioned Jim Bob’s relationship with his daughters. Some feel especially uncomfortable and concerned about Jana she still lives under his roof. Likewise, some fans believe Josh had to learn his inappropriate behavior from somewhere and suspect daddy Duggar wasn’t the best role model.

  1. Honestly. I’m not a fan of the Duggar family by any means, I’ve never seen the show and all I really know of them is the controversies, but this is just stupid or dishonest or both. I find it hard to believe that nooooobody in the entire comments section pointed out that this is almost a direct quote of a Bible verse and has nothing at all to do with what’s implied here. I would imagine at least some of the people following the Duggars identify as Christian and I would like to think at least a few of *those* people have cracked a Bible open once or twice. Any preacher in any church anywhere who gives a sermon about men and their wives would almost certainly quote this verse, because it’s basically the instruction manual for husbands. “Lovers of their wives” means they must love their wives, and sure, sex is part of the package, but that verse is not about the sex part. It’s about being faithful and loving toward their wives in the long term. In context it lists a whole bunch of adjectives to describe the things men should be in order to be congregation leadership material, and “lovers of their wives” is a more literal translation of the original language than other Bibles may use (dedicated to their wives, faithful to their wives, treat their wives well, these are other existing translations of the same verse). She was literally quoting the biblical instruction manual for how to be a good husband and praising her dad for following it, which could not be less suggestive if it tried.

  2. Haven’t we had enough Dugger bashing? Why do we have to keep attacking everything about this nice family? This is simply a sincere compliment and statement of love made by a daughter. Why do people have to try and twist it into something dirty?

    1. Nice family? Child abusing, sexist, homophobic family that literally teaches their daughters that they only exist to do a man’s bidding. There ya go. Fixed that. They raised a child predator and COVERED UP THE ABUSE. Jim Bob LIED ON THE STAND so badly he was called out by the judge. How old are you Ted Reed? Your wife a happy homemaker and you drive a car with a Trump sticker right? PS. Don’t use your real name in comments sections, old man. You’re asking someone to troll you.

  3. I knew something was up with shady jim bob. He was doing sick things too a child shouldn’t say something like that about a parent. That family is just sick. Jessa should have worded the lover part different it would have been better if she said a man who loves his wife and family. What she said made it sound dirty and disgusting. Which he is anyway. That’s why I said there was more than meets the eye about the whole josh thing. He got those sick wasys somewhere and it apparently wasn’t from television.

  4. She is saying he is a man who loves his wife…. like someone who loves to read is a lover of books, or my mom is a lover of all things purple. Not like sexual lover.

    Geeze, people!

  5. My opinion Jessa is just stating he loves his wife. Not that he is a great lover. Please don’t twist her words. Ewww people c’mon be nice.

  6. I watched 19kids and counting, Counting on. I grew up in a strict doctrine holiness church. This family is very loving. Indoctrination is something a lot of old school so called pastors who put rules in place for their church beliefs! When you get old enough to read the bible and understand it from a good SHEPHERD you realize how you were living by rules man made. Moving on, Josh i think could have done like many of my cousins and family young boys who were curious about the opposite sex, experiment, touching, rubbing… So giving him the benefit of being curious became an addiction for Josh. I believe he may need to be away for some time to realize his addiction needs serious attention! A jail cell doesn’t fix that. Not to under estimate his behavior, he can be delivered from this addiction. It’s no different than drugs, alcohol, gambling. Etc.. other people are hurt by it all.

  7. When she made this comment she was referring to his wife not his daughters so what is wrong with that??….there is nothing wrong with her praising her own father! I’m sure he has been very kind to HER!!
