Hallmark’s ‘Aurora Teagarden’ Fans Focused On Mystery Of Niall Matter’s Beard
On Sunday night, Sleuthers turned to Hallmark’s Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Haunted By Murder. This is the eighteenth mystery in the series. Moreover, Candace Cameron Bure and Lexa Doig’s daughters, Natasha Bure, and Mia Shanks played younger versions of themselves.
However, it turns out, the biggest topic of conversation and the unsolved mystery was Nick’s (Niall Matter) beard. Fans did not recognize him. Some thought another actor subbed for the Never Kiss A Man In A Christmas Sweater star. Others wondered if he was preparing for another role. Or, was Matter going incognito.
None of these answers are correct. Thankfully, we have the correct answer as to why Niall Matter is wearing a heavy beard.
Here is the information you need to know.
Fans Want To Know Why Did Niall Matter Grow Beard For Aurora Teagarden
On Sunday, Candace Cameron Bure did an Instagram Live on Hallmark’s Aurora Teagarden Mysteries page. The very first question fans wanted to know was about Niall Matter’s beard. Normally, he has a very slight beard. But, this was a very dark and heavy beard, and very uncharacteristic.
She explained that Niall injured himself doing a home improvement project. This required a lot of stitches, and that was not going to look right for this movie.
CCB Shares Why Niall Matter Grew Beard For Hallmark Mystery
Here is what Candace Cameron Bure said about Niall Matter’s beard:
I need to give you the scoop on the beard because many of you did not even believe it was Niall. You’re like, ‘Why does Aurora have a new husband? Where’s Nick?’ I assure you, it is Niall Matter. And the beard wasn’t the original plan, but Niall cut his face building something in his garage only a couple of days before we started filming. And he had a massive gash on his lip and chin and had about 25 or 28 stitches. He was fine but it was bad. So, instead of having a mangled face in the whole movie, he decided to grow his beard–which grows very, very fast.
And, it covered the stitches and all of that but it was…It was a hairy situation.
The show must go on! Thankfully, Niall was still able to be in this episode. Moreover, it is a good thing that he can grow a thick, dark beard in just a couple of days. That is a very useful skill to have in the acting profession.
Aurora Teagarden Cast Had Inside Jokes
On the Hallmark set, CCB said that the cast and crew had some fun with Niall’s beard. She shared a Just For Men Mustache & Beard ad with Niall’s fully bearded photo.
Not to be outdone, Peter Benson also had his own Just For Men ad! They didn’t want him to feel left out.
Fans Focused On Mystery Of Beard
All over the social media platforms, everyone was talking about Niall Matter’s beard. On Facebook, one fan asked, “What’s going on with Niall Matter’s beard?” One new fan of the series wrote, “I thought she was marrying a different guy. Obviously, the dramatic change in appearance is going to warrant comments from newbies like me.”
However, many conversations have been quite heated on the merits of facial hair. Fans are passionate. It has been a wild ride!
Niall Matter Started Acting Career After Oil Rig Accident
A lot of Hallmark fans may not realize that Niall Matter’s acting career and eventual Hallmark career happened because a serious accident made him reconsider his career.
He told the Deck The Hallmark podcast the story of how he was hurt while working on a Canadian oil rig. Only 25, he was crushed inside of the cab of a 17-ton drilling rig.
He severely hurt his leg. His quad muscle was detached from his femur. Niall’s doctor even talked about amputation, this was so severe. Thankfully, he got better, but it took six months of healing and intensive physical therapy.
He did return to the oil rig, but within a week, he witnessed a horrific accident. That sent him to work as a bartender, as he auditioned for acting roles. So, no matter what the pain was in this accident, a beard was not the worst thing he had ever experienced. Not even close.

I have everything taped he has been on Hallmark channels. He can’t hide behind a beard. I have enjoyed everything he has been in. I’m really mad that hallmark has chosen to take off all the very great series and start replacing them with ones like all the other channels. I never thought this channel would bow to that low standard.
I, too, cannot for the life of me understand why Hallmark just suddenly cancelled so many great series, especially the “Mysteries”, which were so good and so beloved. They literally gutted their programming and tarnished their brand. I know that a number of their main actresses and actors left for GAC, but not everyone, and those who stayed with Hallmark were certainly not rewarded. Their shows were cancelled!!! Is Hallmark Entertainment under new management or something and are they a bunch of idiots?
Romantic Christmas movies are a Hallmark specialty we all have loved, but you can’t build a whole entertainment empire on that alone, nor on marshmallow romantic movies either, although fun. We loved the mysteries!
There is a rumor that GAC might purchase the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries and revive it now that Candace Cameron Bure has signed with them and left Hallmark. But what about all the others? I still miss Mystery Woman with with Kellie Martin, or anything Kellie Martin. Or Murder She Baked, or Emma Fielding Mysteries, or the wonderful Gourmet Detective ? I am truly puzzled by all these cancellations with no final episode at the very least, to say goodbye.
I agree 100%. It’s the one channel I binged on. They have lost the brand, and in doing so an old and faithful audience that pay dearly for a now easy to cancel forum.
