Clayton Echard Sometimes Regrets Being On ‘The Bachelor’
Clayton Echard is sharing how he feels about being the lead on The Bachelor. In fact, he shared that at times he wishes he would have turned down the opportunity. He’s had a lot of drama on his season and viewers have criticized his decisions a lot. Keep reading to find out more about Clayton’s feelings in regards to being The Bachelor.
Clayton Echard sometimes regrets being The Bachelor
US Weekly shared what Clayton Echard had to say about why he sometimes regrets agreeing to be The Bachelor. He recently spoke with Nick Viall on The Viall Files podcast. It was the fans’ initial reaction to him that had him feeling down.
Clayton said, “I think the first three weeks of the show airing, I definitely [regretted saying yes].” He continued, “You just don’t know what to expect going into it.”
He said since he was eliminated fairly early on in Michelle Young’s season of The Bachelorette he really had no idea what it was like to be the lead. Clayton said he never realized the backlash could get so intense.
He said, “[For] the first three weeks, I thought, ‘This is going to be great. Everyone’s gonna come around. People are really going to start seeing my personality,’ and they just weren’t.” Clayton went on to say, “It seemed like no matter what they showed … [fans] are still just wanting to find something to be mad at me about.”
Clayton said he just wasn’t ready for the magnitude of all the criticism he was going to get.
One huge reason fans were criticizing him
Of course, one of the biggest complaints about Clayton was that he kept Shanae Ankney around too long. Fans couldn’t understand why he didn’t see through her lies. They were especially upset when Shanae made fun of Elizabeth for having ADHD.
Clayton said if he had known how Shanae treated Elizabeth he would have sent her home immediately. Another contestant said that was not true. Lyndsey Windham shared a TikTok saying that Clayton did know how Shanae was acting.

When he spoke with Nick Viall he said that information is not accurate. He said, “To set the record straight: I’m not lying. I do want to stress that, as I said in my post, I did not know that Shanae was mocking Elizabeth for having ADHD. I did not know that Elizabeth has ADHD until I watched the show.”
Clayton said he really didn’t recall that conversation with Lyndsey and felt that it just didn’t resonate with him that so much was going on. He said, “I had to go off of what I knew and what was being told to me, which truthfully, wasn’t as much as what people are seeing now.”
Fans were ecstatic when Shanae was finally sent packing on Monday night’s two-on-one date.
What do you think about Clayton’s season so far? Are you glad Shanae is gone?
