Lauren Burnham Details Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Awkward Vasectomy
Fan-favorite couple of The Bachelor Lauren Burnham and Arie Luyendyk Jr. decided there would be no more babies in their future. The decision came after the birth of their twins in the summer of 2021. Their new son and daughter joined their family of three making it a family of five. They already had one daughter. Now, after hinting at it for months, Arie went in to get a vasectomy and Lauren is sharing all about it.

Lauren Burnham Luyendyk went to YouTube with her husband Arie to talk about his decision to go in for a vasectomy. They started their video talking after the procedure. Then, the video cut to about an hour before Arie was scheduled to have the procedure done.
Arie called one of his friends who also had the procedure and even by the same doctor. The friend told him that it doesn’t hurt. He said it’s a tad uncomfortable but not too bad. Arie’s friend Troy also told him to be prepared for some swelling and possible bruising. Arie was laughing but admitted he was very nervous about the procedure.
Now, flash forward to three days post vasectomy. Lauren and Arie said they were going to film a little on their way to the doctor. However, Arie got freaked out on the drive and admits he may have even taken it out on Lauren a bit. Luckily she said she totally understands.
After it was all done
One of the first things out of Arie’s mouth was yes it hurts. He described the pain as a man getting kicked very hard in the testicles. Lauren said Arie was completely white as a ghost and literally pulling his own hair out. He was also sweating. Arie said the first thing they did was inject lidocaine. They then had to inject more as Arie could still feel what was going on.
Lauren got to be in the room with him so she was able to try and distract him. One thing they both noted was that it was awkward for them both. The doctor also noticed that Arie was looking rather pale. He told Arie to let him know if he felt like he was going to vomit. Arie continued describing his experience saying that it was hard for him to know that he had to feel the pain again as they did the second side. Lauren was quick to point out that perhaps Arie is a bit squeamish about medical procedures. He admitted that perhaps he’s just a “big baby.”
While the actual procedure pretty much traumatized Arie, he said the recovery wasn’t too bad. Three days later and he was feeling pretty normal. He noted they even went on a walk the previous night. He also said he didn’t have to use pain meds other than ibuprofen and some of course a little ice from time to time.
Questions and answers
Fans wanted to know why Lauren and Arie chose to do a vasectomy instead of her taking hormonal birth control. Lauren noted that her body doesn’t handle hormonal birth control very well. She found herself struggling with it in the past. So, together once they realized they were done having babies and happy with three, they opted for the vasectomy.
Arie felt like since she gave birth it was the least he could do to help out. Lauren also noted the risks involved with hormonal birth control such as increased cancer risk. Plus, Arie also noted that being 40 he felt he was done having kids. He doesn’t want to be an old dad.
While Arie and Lauren say they are done having babies, the couple noted they are not opposed to adoption in the future.
