‘Yellowstone’: Could Kayce Dutton Replace Donnie As Sheriff?
Yellowstone is headed to its penultimate episode. With just two episodes left, creator Taylor Sheridan will certainly test his characters in new ways. He will also set up the series for next season.

Yellowstone Needs A New Sheriff
Last week’s Yellowstone episode turned out to be a tragedy, especially for John Dutton and his family. Sheriff Donnie Haskell (Hugh Dillon) had his hands full.
Some troubled teens attempted to rob the cafe. However, this petty theft turned into murder. Sheriff Haskell tried to stop things. Tragically, Donnie was shot in the chest, several times.
John Dutton (Kevin Costner), and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) got there just a bit too late. The Sheriff was gone. John lost a valuable ally and a lifelong friend.
This is a game-changer for the Duttons. Not just anyone can fill the shoes of Sheriff Haskell. According to Taste Of Country’s YouTube post, they believe that Kayce is set up to become the next Sheriff.
Could Kayce Dutton Be New Sheriff In Yellowstone?
Yellowstone fans would not be shocked at the idea that Kayce Dutton would be ideal as the new sheriff. He is a success as the Livestock Commissioner. Would he be a good fit to become Sheriff?
Kayce is beloved in the community. He is a character that will go the extra mile to do the right thing. Moreover, because of the tender relationship between Kayce and Monica (Kelsey Asbille), he has achieved the respect of the local reservation. He is respected at the ranch. Therefore, they have his back.
Moreover, the legend of Kayce continues throughout the community. When he stole the horses from the bank, which he sold, and then gave the $16k to the family of a man who killed himself, word got out. People could see Kayce’s priorities were for those who could not fend for themselves.
Kayce Is Not A Politician
While Kayce Dutton is well-loved through the entire world of Yellowstone, he is still not a politician. As Livestock Commissioner, he thought, and acted, as a landowner.
However, as Sheriff, he will surely encounter situations that may require a blind eye. Could Kayce’s moral compass survive the sorts of political compromises that he would encounter as Sheriff?
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is not afraid to put his characters through such character-defining moments. Putting Kayce in this position could alter the power dynamics within the Dutton family. Moreover, what about some secrets revealed?
