Is ‘Storage Wars’ Legit & Can You Buy The Units On Show?
Storage Wars fans can’t get enough of the show. The reality series first premiered on A&E in 2010. Viewers quickly learned that many people love to bid on abandoned storage units. They want to know if everything that’s shown is for real and how they can purchase the storage unit themselves. Others want to know how this show works behind the scenes when the cameras aren’t rolling.
The cast members often compete over the storage units. The original renters part ways with these items and decide to sell them. When the lucky bidders win the units, they are allowed to explore the contents. However, they have to act quickly or they’ll miss out.
Is Storage Wars a legitimate show?
Of course, most fans want to know if the show is for real. According to its cast members, everything that happens on Storage Wars is what happens in real life. That’s not the case for all reality shows. Sometimes, producers will intervene and encourage the cast members to re-shoot a scene or repeat a line.
However, this cast confirmed that their show is the real deal. In April 2021, Brandi Passante confirmed to Distractify that their show is legitimate. The auctions that take place on the show are known to the general public. It’s actually against the law for the producers to get involved with the auctions or to mess around with the items found in the storage units.
“They’re public actions. It would be collusion, which is against the law, to tamper with any of the storage units prior to [the auction],” Brandi explained, “because anyone can come to these auctions.”
Sometimes the show doesn’t feature all of the storage units that don’t have as exciting hauls. She also denied that producers plan items to make them seem more interesting. Brandi said that they are both “good ones and bad ones,” but she’s glad that they focus on the bad ones just as much. At first, people thought this was a get-rich-quick scheme, but there’s more work to it than that.
How to purchase the storage units for sale?
Fans also want to know how to get their hands on the Storage Wars units that are put up for sale. Unfortunately, there isn’t an online place where you can be one of the lucky bidders. Regardless, you can purchase a storage unit at your local storage facility. Since the show likes to create an intense auction experience, fans may be let down in real life.
You can purchase storage units in person, or you can bid on nationwide units online. While it’s a less personal experience, you can do your research on the items that you get to see. The only thing with online auctions is that you have to remove the items as soon as you win the auction. In the meantime, you can watch the show to keep up with some of the hottest auctions.
Storage Wars airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on A&E.
