‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Guest Host Sherri Shepherd Has Emergency Surgery
Sherri Shepherd has to undergo emergency surgery. This comes amid her guest host gig on The Wendy Williams Show. She has become a fan-favorite in the purple chair, that’s usually occupied by Wendy Williams herself. There have been talks that Shepherd may end up replacing Williams.
Now, she’s finding herself in the same place as the original host. She was rushed to the hospital before hosting the daytime talk show. Shepherd was scheduled to guest host this week. Read on to learn more about Shepherd’s health condition and how she’s doing now.
Could she replace Wendy Williams?
Fans have made it clear who they want as the new host of the talk show. They want Sherri Shepherd to replace her predecessor. Previously, Shepherd is best known as a co-host on The View. She also starred on her eponymous sitcom, Sherri, and The Jamie Foxx Show. When she started filling in for Williams, viewers couldn’t help but notice how much of a good fit she is.
Shepherd first started guest-hosting the show in early November. Since then, the show has received a 13 percent increase in ratings. The Wendy Williams Show is finally on the same level as The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. David Perler, the executive producer of The Wendy Williams Show, talked about Shepherd’s performance.
He revealed that she’s a serious candidate. Perler told The Blast that she “engages our viewers with her relatable conversations and unique point of view on the hottest topics.” Even his team was excited to work with her and couldn’t wait for her to return to the set.
The future of the show remains unclear. However, Williams could make a return to her purple chair in February 2022. Meanwhile, an insider told The Sun that she will not return due to her health problems. Previously, it was reported that Shepherd would host the December episodes of the show.
Sherri Shepherd faces a medical emergency
Per Deadline, Shepherd had to be replaced by Michael Rappaport. She would’ve been the guest host this week but she has undergone emergency surgery for appendicitis. Her publicist revealed that she’s doing well and will return as soon as she recovers. It may take some time before fans see her again.
“Due to appendicitis, Sherri Shepherd underwent an emergency surgery yesterday,” Shepherd’s publicist said in a statement to Deadline. “The procedure was successful, and Ms. Shepherd is doing fine and resting. She is absolutely devastated that she will not be able to guest host The Wendy Williams Show today, but she is following doctors’ orders and expected to make a full recovery.”
Shepherd hopes to make her return later this week. She’s just of many celebrities who served as guest hosts on the show. Williams is recovering from complications of a breakthrough case of COVID-19 and Graves disease. She’s been slowly stepping back from promotion due to her “ongoing health issues.”
