Kelly Clarkson Has Emotional Breakdown During NBC Christmas Special
The Voice and American Idol star Kelly Clarkson had an emotional breakdown during her NBC Christmas special on Wednesday. The singer, songwriter, and TV personality brown down in tears while admitting she felt alone during the holiday season amid her divorce.
Kelly Clarkson explains influence for new song
According to US Weekly, it was when the singer explained the inspiration for her newest songs involved her divorce with Brandon Blackstock that she became overwhelmed with emotion.
It was right before The Voice coach sang “Merry Christmas (To the One I Used to Know)” that she broke down to tears.
Kelly Clarkson started out by explaining that the holidays typically bring out a whole “range of emotions” for people. Then, she proceeded to admit she was going to get real with her fans. This was when she gave some background information on the song she was about to perform.
I’m gonna be real with y’all — when I wrote this next song, I was crying my face off, which happens even at Christmastime, everyone. I had just put my kids to bed and I was just going through it, having a really hard time, and it’s been a really tough year for a lot of us. And I wrote this song for me, but also because there aren’t many holiday songs for people feeling alone or lost or just plain sad other than Dolly Parton’s classic ‘Hard Candy Christmas,’ which we all love. It’s about getting through a tough holiday. I absolutely love that song and it allowed me to write this.”
The song tells the story of someone wondering if their ex is a liar
The final song Kelly Clarkson performed during her special was titled “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You).”
When she introduced this track, she admitted that she was nervous. She was nervous because this song was not what people expected when they were turning on a Christmas single. Kelly Clarkson, however, proceeded to acknowledge that a lot of people have had a hard time the past few years. Not just her. And, this unorthodox Christmas single was for all of the people who had things taken from them during the pandemic.
She wanted her song to be about the fact that despite what can be taken away from a person… No one could take Christmas because Christmas was in your heart.
There were so many things taken. But instead of looking at everything that’s gone wrong, we should be looking at all the things that have gone right. And that’s what my therapist tells me anyway so that’s who I’m singing to! But no matter what people try to take from you, nobody can cancel Christmas, y’all.”
Kelly Clarkson filed for the divorce that inspired her new songs last year
It was back in June of 2020 that Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock. The couple had been married for nearly seven years. And, they share two children. According to US Weekly, both Clarson and Blackstock were considered legally single in September of this year. But, their divorce is not set to be finalized until January of next year.
Kelly Clarkson fans can only wonder what Brandon Blackstock thinks about essentially being put on blast as the singer admits her the end of her marriage with him was the inspiration of her new songs.
