Astroworld Tragedy Update: Travis Scott Sued For Negligence
Lawsuits against Travis Scott continue to pile up. The rapper is expected to pay upwards of $3 billion dollars. While there hasn’t been much talk about the Astroworld tragedy, more families are coming forward. The “Sicko Mode” artist has been sued for negligence.
It’s no secret that his shows are a rowdy and wild environment. However, the 2021 Astroworld Festival got out of hand. According to the victims and their families, Travis is responsible for the safety of the concert goers. He went into hiding ever since he shared statements on social media.
Read on about this latest lawsuit and what he’s been up to since.
Travis Scott makes his first appearance since the Astroworld tragedy
Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend remained in Houston, Texas, following the events of the Astroworld Festival, which also took place there. Travis Scott made his first public appearance since the tragedy. Ten people died and hundreds were injured following a mass casualty event during his concert on Friday, November 5. In his statement, the rapper said he was “absolutely devastated” by what happened.
Yet, he’s been criticized for the way he handled this event. Critics claim that Travis should take full responsibility for what happened. He did share that he plans to pay for the funeral costs. However, he may have a hard time with the lawsuits piling up against him.
TMZ shared the first photos of Travis at a Southern California golf course with NBA star Michael Jordan, actor Michael Wahlberg, and other celebrities. Travis ventured out of Houston to the Palm Springs location. This is his first public appearance since Astroworld Festival. Amid the reports, Travis attended an Astroworld afterparty the night of the mass casualty.
He also reportedly went to a strip club. Travis is said to be unaware that people died at his concert. Since this first public appearance, he remained in his hometown of Houston as the investigation into the tragedy is ongoing. Several lawsuits have been filed against Travis, including the event’s promoter Live Nation, and other performers that were involved.
Family sues “Sicko Mode” rapper for negligence
Per Page Six, the family of a 14-year-old who died at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival is suing the rapper and others for $1 million. John Hilgert is one of the 10 young victims who died after chaos broke out on the opening night of the festival. The two-day event was canceled thereafter.
The teen’s parents, Chris and Nicole Hilgert, filed a lawsuit against Travis Scott and Live Nation Worldwide for “gross negligence” and “reckless disregard” for his safety. They feel that it resulted in his death.
“The pain of our loss from our son John not making it home alive from an event such as this is intolerable,” Chris Hilgert said in a statement to People. “He was a beautiful young man who simply wanted to enjoy his first concert event with friends, whom he treasured spending time with more than anything else.”
The parents are hoping that safety measures will be put into place to prevent another tragic event from happening. Adam and Jennifer Cox, the parents of John Hilgert’s friend who was injured at the concert, filed a similar lawsuit. This comes amid the onslaught of other lawsuits that Travis and others have faced following the fatal event. Travis’ lawyer has not commented on the matter.
