Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke are in excellent standing right now. After a tough Janet Jackson Night episode, the pair successfully made it into the semifinals which will take place on Monday night. If they perform well, they may just make it to the finale.

But in spite of their success, Cody Rigsby actually considered leaving the show at one point. What made him choose to stick around?

Cody Rigsby and his bout with COVID-19 almost made him want to drop out

Both Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby were fortunate that they didn’t develop severe COVID-19 symptoms. But even so, many survivors struggle to return to regular exercise. And DWTS is no easy feat.

“We definitely had a very bumpy, very rocky start to this,” Cody admitted to Page Six after the Janet Jackson episode ended.

“I remember talking to my boss or a friend of mine and I was like, ‘Should I just quit? Should I not do it? Like, I have COVID, it’s going to be so crazy,’” the fitness instructor continued. “She was like, ’No, do this. It’ll feel like a memory in two weeks and you’ll get through.”

In the end, he’s really glad he chose to stick around.

“A part of you, the inner saboteur, is going to tell you to quit. It’s going to tell you that you can’t do it.” he continued. He added that he just simply had to stand his ground and keep going, even while recovering from COVID-19.

Many DWTS fans are definitely glad that Cody and Cheryl decided to stay! They’ve come very far in the competition and still have a lot to prove.

The pair do well on Janet Jackson Night and survive for another week

This week, Cody and Cheryl dominated the ballroom with their routine to “Black Cat” by Janet Jackson.

“There was no stress this week,” Cody added. “Usually by like Friday or Saturday I’m like, ‘Oh crap, I can’t do this!’ But I felt very confident the entire week, to be honest. Not to sound cocky, we just felt strong going into it.”

They lost the dance-off to Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten, but still have a lot to be proud of. They earned enough votes to stay out of the bottom three couples and proceed to the semifinals next Monday.

We have no doubt that Cody and Cheryl are already hard at work on their next routine. The semifinals are definitely nothing to mess around with! It’s been quite some time since Cheryl Burke took home the Mirrorball Trophy, so we’re sure she’s putting Cody through tough rehearsals.

Keep voting for Cody and Cheryl if you want them to win Dancing With The Stars this year! Keep checking back with us for more.
