Olivia Jade Surprised Us All — What Do The Judges Think Of Her Journey?
Olivia Jade is definitely a front-runner on Dancing With The Stars this year. But not many people guessed she would be so talented. Even the judges are pleasantly surprised by her progress.
Derek Hough admits that Olivia Jade really impressed him during her dance journey so far
Derek Hough told Pop Culture that he’s very surprised by how far she’s come this year. At first, he admitted she wasn’t on his radar. But her remarkable growth and raw talent really caught his attention.
“To be honest with you, at the beginning … you had those few people that you were looking out for them and all of a sudden I’m like, ‘Wait, [Olivia Jade is] really good,” the 36-year-old judge confessed. “She’s a great performer. She’s really charismatic. It’s very natural. But also just the technique is really good, and so I was pretty impressed. I’m pretty surprised by her.”
However, the competition is really fierce this season. Derek admits that realistically, anyone left could with the Mirrorball Trophy. Olivia Jade and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy have an excellent shot, but they’ll need to hold their own against the other top competitors.
“Who knows what’s going to happen? Everybody’s so good!” Derek went on to say. “This is an exciting part of the season because this is where it gets competitive. … People that you might have thought were going to be in the final are being knocked out. So it’s going to be exciting.”
Val Chmerkovskiy admits the 22-year-old influencer is his favorite partner
Olivia Jade may have captured viewers’ and judges’ hearts alike, but what about her dance partner? It appears that Val Chmerkovskiy loves the YouTuber too. He made a recent appearance on her podcast and had plenty of glowing things to say.
“I’ll tell you this, you definitely are the biggest surprise for me. You definitely exceeded my expectations for sure, out of everybody [I’ve partnered with]. There’s people that came in and turned out to be such a wonderful season, a winning season, but — I’m not saying they were ringers, but they had potential coming in. Like, it was mine to ruin. Zendaya was mine to ruin, Normani was mine to ruin, they were amazing already and I just made some good choices for them and then just got out of their way,” the Ukrainian dancer said.
He added that Season 30 may be his last, simply because he doesn’t know if he can handle such an emotionally charged season like this one.
