JoJo Siwa Hopes ‘DWTS’ Will Help Her Career Transition Into Bigger Roles
If you caught Dancing With The Stars this week, you probably noticed that judges compared JoJo Siwa to one other memorable DWTS contestant — Zendaya.
Both women got their start as kid-friendly entertainers. Zendaya was a Disney Channel star and JoJo was part of the Dance Moms crew. But now, Zendaya is starring in many films suited for older audiences and JoJo Siwa really wants to follow in her footsteps. Transitioning out of the “kid-friendly” theme is one of JoJo’s goals and hopes Dancing With The Stars can help.
JoJo Siwa and Zendaya both began their career in very similar ways
Zendaya appeared on Dancing With The Stars Season 16. She competed with Val Chmerkovskiy, who is married to JoJo’s partner Jenna Johnson.
Jenna thought the judges gave her and JoJo a major compliment when they compared the two to Val and Zendaya.
“That was amazing,” the pro dancer told Us Weekly after this week’s episode. “That was, I think, such a big compliment [because] Zendaya, I think, flourished on the show and then became who she is now, [which is] a freaking icon.”
JoJo Siwa also received the comment well.
“People my whole life [have] been waiting for me to have my, like, ‘child star breakout go-crazy moment.’ … A lot of times, they go crazy to phase out of that time [and] that phase of life,” JoJo added on. “But for me, I feel like this is my transition. And I feel like it’s such a good, wholesome, right way of transitioning out of being a child star. And it feels so good to grow every single day and learn new things about myself every single day.”
Who knows? JoJo Siwa may get some more grown-up movie roles over the next several years too.
The pair try to bounce back after a heartbreaking night
Sadly, Jenna and JoJo ended up in the bottom two this week. But they aren’t letting it rain on their parade. The women both feel resilient and that they will come back better than ever next week.
“Oh my gosh, you guys. What a wild night. I mean, Dancing with the Stars tonight was a roller coaster,” the 18-year-old updated fans on her Instagram stories. “We were in the bottom two, but we made it another week and I’m really thankful for that. Thank you, guys, for your votes. Thank you to the judges.”
Next Monday, we’ll see the remaining couples compete to a myriad of Janet Jackson songs. It’s definitely going to be a lot of fun.
