WWE Smackdown returned to Madison Square Garden for the first time since the COVID pandemic and did so with a loaded show. Brock Lesnar returned to confront Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman. The Usos defending their tag team titles against the Street Profits. In a Summerslam rematch, Edge and Seth Rollins did battle in front of a hot NYC crowd and put on an instant classic.

WWE Smackdown: 5 Must-See Moments

Brock Lesnar challenges Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns and the Bloodline kicked off Friday Nigth Smackdown in front of a red hot crowd at MSG. Within minutes, Brock Lesnar’s music hit as he head to the ring to the roar of the crowd. Lesnar accused Paul Heyman of withholding his Summerslam appearance from Reigns, which caused the Bloodline to leave the ring. Heyman attempted to suck up to Lesnar which caused Brock to life him on his shoulders for an F5. Reigns rushed back into the ring and attacked Lesnar, but Brock pushed him off and beat down the Usos. The crowd was hot from the start and it was one of the best WWE TV moments of the year.

Sami Zayn trolls MSG
Before the start of a massive 10-man tag, Sami Zayn got on the mic wearing a Knicks jersey. Zayn said he invited a man who knew how to win in NY to be in his corner before Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young came to the ring. Young was a standout during the Hawks series win over the Knicks earlier this year, with the crowd loudly booing him in the process. The tag match was fun, but Young’s appearance took the headlines.

A contract signed
Sasha Banks returned at Summerslam and shocked the WWE Universe with a 26-second title win over Bianca Belair. Since then, Belair has been pushing for a rematch, but Banks has been resistant. In the middle of the ring on WWE Smackdown, the crowd let Banks have it, much to her dismay. In the end, Banks signed the contract as Belair smiled knowing she has her rematch.

Instant Classic

Rollins clashes with Edge
Last month at WWE Summerslam, Edge defeated Seth Rollins in an instant classic. In their rematch, both men did not disappoint. The match lastest nearly 25 minutes and was one of the best seen on WWE TV all year. The action went back and forth until Rollins was able to get the win after a curb stomp. Edge was stretchered to the back before the commercial break as it looks like this feud will continue on.

Demom Balor returns
In the WWE Smackdown main event, The Street Profits had their shot at the tag team titles against The Usos. After appearing to have the match won, The Street Profits were denied the titles when Roman Reigns interfered. After choking out Montez Ford, Reigns offically accepted Brock Lesnar’s challenge. To close the show, Finn Balor appeared as The Demon and went face to face with Reigns.
