Stephen A. Smith — known for his recurring role as Brick on General Hospital — recently opened his mouth and shoved his foot down his throw. According to TV Line, the recurring soap star made a truly offensive remark that he’s now apologizing for.

Stephen A. Smith makes an offensive statement about Shohei Ohtani

The recurring General Hospital star argued that Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani was harmful to the baseball game. He explained his reasoning for this opinion was because the Japanese pitcher required an English translator.

“This brother is special, make no mistake about it. But the fact that you’ve got a foreign player that doesn’t speak English, that needs an interpreter, believe it or not, I think contributes to harming the game to some degree when that’s your box-office appeal.” He noted as he served the player a backhanded compliment.

The actor and ESPN host went on to note that Bryce Harper or Mike Trout would have made better choices. Now, by the time Stephen A. Smith finished saying this… He had already stuffed his foot in his mouth. Unfortunately, he wasn’t done. The actor felt the need to continue. To ram his foot all the way down his throat. He continued to speak.

When you talk about an audience gravitating to the tube, or to the ballpark, to actually watch you, OK? I don’t think it helps that the No. 1 face [of the sport] is a dude that needs an interpreter so you can understand what the hell he’s saying.”

The recurring GH star issued an apology on social media

Unsurprisingly, Stephen A. Smith was CRUCIFIED on social media by both soap fans and sports fans for his offensive remarks. Realizing the gravity of his situation, the actor issued an apology on social media.

I never intended to offend any community, particularly the Asian community. As an African-American, keenly aware of the damage stereotyping has done to many in this country, it should’ve elevated my sensitivities even more.”

Will Stephen A. Smith return to General Hospital?

Some General Hospital viewers are calling for Stephen A. Smith’s head. They don’t believe he should be allowed to return to the soap opera anymore. Likewise, many believe ESPN should have canned him as well. One General Hospital fan noted on social media that if Smith had been a white actor cancel culture would have already caught up with him.
