Why Kim Kardashian’s Partnership With Team USA Is Close To Her Heart
Kim Kardashian and Team USA seem like an unlikely pair. People are shocked to learn that she’s collaborating with them ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. In 2018, Kim launched her shapewear line, SKIMS, which achieved success. Of course, the brand hasn’t been without its share of controversy.
SKIMS currently values over $1 billion. Since then, Kim expanded the brand with new collections such as loungewear, underwear, hosiery, and more. As the brand expands, Kim just announced that she will help design Team USA’s underwear and loungewear for both the Tokyo Olympics and the Paralympic Games. This announcement has many scratching their heads, but it’s a decision that’s close to Kim’s heart.
SKIMS is the official loungewear designer for Team U.S.A.
On Monday, June 28, Kim Kardashian became the latest designer for Team USA. However, she’s not designing their uniforms. Usually, Ralph Lauren designs the team’s uniforms. And no, she’s not making the athletes wear shapewear.
Kim took to her social media to announce that SKIMS is partnering with Team USA to create their loungewear and underwear. All of the American female athletes will rock the looks in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Kim shared snapshots of their looks on Twitter. She also told her fans and follower that they can purchase the capsule collection on the SKIMS website.
“I am honored to announce that @SKIMS is designing the official team USA undergarments, pajamas, and loungewear for the athletes this year in Tokyo, and the same pieces will be available in a capsule collection at SKIMS.com,” she tweeted.
The forthcoming collection is modeled by soccer star Alex Morgan, basketball player A’ja Wilson, hurdler Dalilah Muhammad, swimmer Haley Anderson, and Paralympic Track & Field athlete Scout Bassett. In a statement to People, Kim called the athletes “incredible role models for younger women, including my own daughters, showing them that anything is possible if you work hard enough.” The beauty and fashion maven feels especially honored to work with Team USA to share this empowering message.
Kim Kardashian feels connected to this collaboration
This announcement had many Olympic fans scratching their heads. They wanted to know why the Kardashians were inserting themselves into the global event. Kim Kardashian is the step-daughter of Olympic gold medalist, Caitlyn Jenner. So, this collaboration makes sense since it’s close to her heart.
She always had the utmost respect for the Olympic Games and its athletes. She grew up seeing the hard work and dedication that goes into these events. Obviously, she feels honored as this latest milestone is close to her heart. Kim is excited to have her SKIMS brand collaborate with Team USA for this highly-anticipated sporting event.
“Ever since I was 10 years old, I’ve heard every single detail about the Olympics from my stepdad,” Kim wrote in her Instagram post. “As I would watch the athletes compete, I would grow to understand the dedication and honor being a part of the Olympics embodied. I traveled w my stepdad and family to all different cities for the Olympic trials, the Olympics, and track meets of @caitlynjenner’s and at every stop, I would buy an Olympic t-shirt as a souvenir.”
She called it a “full-circle” moment. Kim “received the call inviting Skims to be a part of @TeamUSA.” What are your thoughts on SKIMS collaborating with Team USA? The new SKIMS collection will be available for purchase on Monday, July 12. The Tokyo Olympics air Friday, July 23 live on NBC.
