The Real hostess Jeannie Mai once said she dreamed of getting married in a beautiful winter ceremony. But at the end of the day, marrying her fiance Jeezy is all that really matters. The couple married in a private ceremony on March 27 at their home in Atlanta. Jeannie recently sat down with Vogue to discuss their decision to marry when they did.

Jeannie Mai had to reconsider wedding plans due to the pandemic

Like many couples, Jeezy and Jeannie Mai had other things planned for their wedding. But the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into those plans. A wedding in Lake Como or France just wasn’t doable anymore.

“We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate,” Jeannie told the publication. “But we had to change all of our wedding plans due to COVID. After Jeezy’s mother unexpectedly passed, we quickly learned that life is too short. And at the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife. So we decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends.”

If you recall, Jeannie had her own health scare during her appearance on Dancing With The Stars last fall. Doctors deduced her throat was in danger of closing up and she had to withdraw from the competition immediately. Fortunately, she recovered well. She seems to be doing very well these days.

Throwing a wedding in the middle of a pandemic is never easy. But even so, Jeannie and Jeezy made responsible choices. All wedding guests had to provide negative COVID-19 test results taken within two days of the wedding. Jeannie and Jeezy also provided tests at the wedding too.

The ceremony contained beautiful Vietnamese traditions

If you watched Dancing With The Stars last season, you know just how important Jeannie Mai’s Vietnamese heritage is to her. It wouldn’t be her perfect wedding day without Vietnamese influences and traditions incorporated into the ceremony. Jeannie’s brother led the tea ceremony before the couple exchanged vows.

“He led Jeezy and I in a ritual performed at Vietnamese weddings,” Jeannie told Vogue. “In this ceremony, we honored our parents by pouring tea as a gesture to welcome Jeezy into my family, and me into his. Then we paid our respects to our parents and ancestors by bowing four times, each one symbolizing a significant gift in the life that they have provided us with.”
