Five-Time ‘Jeopardy!’ Winner Brayden Smith Dead: What We Know
Five-time Jeopardy! winner Brayden Smith has passed away at the age of 24. He died on Friday, February 5. He was born on September 6, 1996. Smith died in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Per a tweet from Brayden’s mother, Debbie Smith, his death was unexpected. She writes, “We are heartbroken to share that our dear Brayden Smith recently passed away unexpectedly. We are so grateful that Brayden was able to live out his dream on @jeopardy.”
In response, the official Jeopardy! Twitter account wrote, “The JEOPARDY! family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brayden Smith. He was kind, funny and absolutely brilliant. Our deepest condolences go out to Brayden’s family. He will be missed.” They shared the same message directly on their page in addition to sending it to Debbie.
Per the obituary, Brayden’s time on the popular game show were very monumental. The obituary reads, “His appearances were among the last hosted by Alex Trebek, and Brayden was hailed on social media as ‘Alex’s Last Great Champion.’ He was looking forward to competing in the show’s Tournament of Champions.”
During his time on the show, he won $115,000.
Jeopardy! fans shocked by Brayden Smith’s sudden death
When fans of the show saw Debbie’s tweet about her son’s death, they began responding and sending their condolences to the family.
In response to the tweet, some fans are sharing their memories of watching Brayden compete on the game show. A few fellow contestants are commenting and offering their condolences as well. It appears that the entire Jeopardy! community is being hit hard by this news.
The Smith family is receiving nothing but support from Brayden’s fans, as can be seen in response to Debbie’s tweet below. As a way to honor Brayden, the family is asking for donations to help students in Nevada further their education. You can donate to that fund here.

At this point, very little is public about Brayden’s death. The family has not revealed the cause of his death, and it’s unclear if that will be shared publicly.
