Pregnant Ashley Tisdale Slammed For This Choice
Ashley Tisdale caused a conversation on social media. The High School Musical star filmed a video of herself drinking coffee. But there’s only one issue, according to her followers. Ashley is expecting her first child with her husband Christopher French.
Some wondered if the 35-year-old should be consuming caffeine. They flocked to her Instagram post to express concern about the actress drinking while pregnant. Some of them even asked if it’s okay for moms-to-be to enjoy a little cup of Joe. The video sparked debate in the comments section with some followers arguing with each other.
You could call say it was coffee chaos.
Ashley Tisdale sparks coffee debate on Instagram
On Wednesday, November 25, the Disney alum shared a video of herself drinking coffee. She admits that she’s been up all night long. So, she needed a little pick-me-up.
“When you'[ve] been up since 4am it’s coffee time,” she captioned the post.
However, fans were concerned about her coffee consumption. Many of them asked her: “Can you drink coffee when pregnant?” While most argued against it, some moms revealed they drank coffee while expecting.
“People who are concerned about her drinking coffee while pregnant [clown face emoji],” one fan wrote. “I drank like 3 cups a day almost throughout my pregnancy. My son turned out just fine.”
“Decaf time for you,” another follower commented.
Back in September, the British Medical Journal published findings revealed alcohol consumption during pregnancy is not safe. Experts questioned whether the claims in the study were true. In addition, Dr. Christopher Zahn, Vice President of practice activities for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists told CNN that everything should be in moderation.
“Our guidance remains that moderate caffeine consumption, less than 200 mg per day, does not appear to be a major contributing factor in miscarriage or preterm birth,” he told the news outlet.
This translates to one 12-ounce cup of coffee per day. It’s important to reduce one’s caffeine intake since it’s a diuretic and a stimulant. Since caffeine is a stimulate, it can increase blood pressure and heart rate, which is not good for pregnant women. It can also encourage frequent urination, which can reduce body fluid levels and cause dehydration.
Is caffeine during pregnancy okay?
Although mothers like Ashley Tisdale can handle the caffeine they need, their babies cannot. That’s because the baby’s metabolism is still maturing, so it can’t metabolize the caffeine, according to the American Pregnancy Association. Even the smallest amount of caffeine can change a baby’s sleep pattern or movement during the later stages of pregnancy. Ashley and her baby may both find themselves staying up late at night.
But it’s unclear whether she was drinking caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee. Keep in mind that caffeine exists in more than just coffee. It’s also in chocolate, soda, tea, and some over-the-counter medicines that relieve pain. It’s important for moms to be careful as to what they consume.
Ashley has not responded to the controversy. What are your thoughts? Do you think it’s safe for expecting moms to consume coffee? Sound off below.
