Katy Perry Still Supports Her Parents Despite Their Political Differences
Still family no matter what. Katy Perry continues to show support for her conservative family. Recently, she took to social media to promote her father and brother’s “Nothing But American” T-shirt line. Even though her post generated over 1 million views, their business attracted less than 300 followers on Instagram and less than 200 on Twitter.
This comes after Katy said she still talks to her parents. Like most American families, they disagreed over the 2020 presidential election. Katy was born and raised Christian. Her parents are conservatives who support President Donald Trump.
The “Daisies” singer shared her support for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election and President-elect Joe Biden.
Katy Perry angers fans with her father’s “non-partisan” T-shirt line
The “Roar” singer managed to anger her own fanbase. They criticized her for promoting her father’s non-partisan clothing line. On Friday, November 27, she posted a video that featured her father, Keith Hudson, promoting his new company. Katy wrote in the caption: “We haven’t always seen [eye] to [eye] but I’m proud of my dad n bro for coming up with this! Head to @NothingButUSA store for the vibes.”
In the clip, her father asks viewers if they are “sick of the division” in our country and “losing family” members because of political differences. He feels that everyone is an American, no matter their political beliefs or religious views. He also wears a T-shirt that has boxes for the Donkey (Democrat) and Elephant (Republican) are intentionally blank. However, the box for the American flag has a check mark.
The other T-shirt says, “Not a Republican, Not a Democrat, I Am an American.” Fans criticized Katy after she posted the line on Twitter and Instagram. They couldn’t understand why she would promote the line, especially with her staunch Democratic views. Others argued that a clothing line doesn’t connect people of different parties – especially amid the political divide in this country.

Katy defended her decision. She tweeted that while they don’t always agree on politics, she will support him no matter what. Keith is an evangelical Christian who referred to the “Dark Horse” singer as a “devil child” in one of his sermons. She always showed support for the LGBTQ+ community and other liberal matters.
American Idol judge consoled her family after the election
This comes after Katy Perry revealed that she was there for her family on election night. On Sunday, November 8, the “Smile” singer tweeted that as soon as the election results came in, she immediately reached out to her family. She simply wanted to console them and encouraged her followers to do the same.
“the first thing I did when the presidency was called is text and call my family members who do not agree and tell them I love them and am here for them,” Katy wrote. “#FamilyFirst. Call your family today. Happy Sunday.”

That tweet didn’t go well with her fans. One fan wrote: “my grandfather wants me dead for being queer.” Another said that a “family who wants you to have less rights does not need to come first. Or at all.”
