Scheana Shay Addresses The Uncertainty Of ‘Vanderpump Rules’
Scheana Shay is not feeling good about the future of Vanderpump Rules Season 9. She previously confirmed that the popular Bravo series isn’t in production. It’s on halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although SUR reopened in late September, production hasn’t resumed.
Since then, Bravo hasn’t renewed the show for a ninth season. It also comes after the firings of Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute. The network removed them from the show for their past comments and actions. Scheana recently shared her thoughts on the future of the show on her “Schenanigans” podcast.
Scheana Shay talks Vanderpump Rules Season 9
On the Friday, November 20 episode of her “Schenanigans” podcast, Scheana Shay admitted that she’s “worried” about the future of the show. She’s not certain if it will return at all. Rumors of a potential cancellation have been swirling for months. Scheana said she doesn’t like being in the dark.
“I’m worried that, I mean, ’cause we don’t know exactly what’s going on. We were just gonna assume that with three cast members all being due in April, they would kind of schedule around that, but nothing has been said for sure,” Scheana said on her podcast. “And now with all the counties in the state going back into purple, I don’t know if that’s going to affect what the tentative plan even was. That’s just in my head. Nothing has been confirmed.”
The 35-year-old is currently pregnant with her and her boyfriend Brock Davies’ first child. Her co-stars Brittany Cartwright and Lala Kent are also pregnant. However, Stassi’s pregnancy wouldn’t be chronicled due to her firing. Even if the show was currently filming, their pregnancies would be mentioned.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that 41 of California’s 58 counties will go under lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak. All non-essential work will stop in the purple-tier counties. Since Pump Rules typically films in the summer, the temporary closure of Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants prevented production from resuming. As a result, the show is up in the air.
“SUR has been back open since mid-September,” Scheana continued. “And then Pump just opened back up Halloween weekend. But TomTom hasn’t opened back up.”
Did the Bravo firings affect the show’s plans?
The show got held back again after Bravo announced Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni aren’t returning for Season 9. The network let them go due to their racially insensitive comments from their past. Andy Cohen revealed earlier this month that the show needs some new blood. The Bravo EP has high hopes even though Scheana feels uncertain.
“I actually think in an odd way [the pandemic closing the restaurants is] going to create a lot of story that is absolutely real, and they’ll be able to lean into it,” Andy said on the “Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino” podcast on Thursday, November 5. “And they’re both brilliant characters on television [but] I think it will be interesting to see whose there and who’s not and what’s really happening.”
Vanderpump Rules also stars Ariana Madix, Brittany Cartwright, Dayna Kathan, Katie Maloney, Jax Taylor, Tom Schwartz, and Tom Sandoval. Ariana previously said on the “#NoFilter with Zack Peter” podcast that she has no “real information” on Season 9. But she thinks seeing everyone’s pregnancies would be “a pretty compelling story.” But she loves that they’re not filming since she’s “not mentally stable enough for drama” with a pandemic going on.
