Jeannie Mai Recovers, Reports Situation Was Incredibly Serious
Jeannie Mai recently underwent emergency surgery for epiglottitis. Unfortunately, this meant she had to withdraw from Dancing With The Stars. While The Real host was heartbroken, it was for the best. PEOPLE recently reported that if she waited any longer, the consequences may have been fatal.
“If you had waited one more day, your throat would have closed up,” a member of Jeannie’s care team told her.
“I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here. The last several weeks have been an amazing learning experience. I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come,” Jeannie told PEOPLE. She goes on to thank her partner, Brandon Armstrong, and the rest of her fans for their love and support.
Jeannie Mai Updates Fans On Her Condition
Fortunately, Jeannie Mai reported her surgery was successful. She’s now comfortably resting and healing. On Monday, she updated fans in an Instagram post.
“I would never imagine ever having to write this, but I made it safely out of my emergency surgery. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nasseri who identified my potentially life-threatening condition. What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days,” the Holey Moley star shared alongside a photo. She lays in bed, surrounded by balloons.
She went on to say that she will truly miss her time on the show and is so thankful for the friendships she made, especially with Brandon Armstrong. However, Jeannie is happy to report that her thumbs still work so she will watch the rest of the competition and vote for all her new friends.
Fans And Friends Wish Her Well
Brandon Armstrong recently posted a kind message for Jeannie on his own Instagram page.
“JEANNIE! I’m so sorry this happened to you! You don’t deserve it!” Armstrong, 26, captioned a photo of himself and Mai from a past episode. “Your journey on this show was so special so unique and so inspiring! I loved EVERY SINGLE WEEK that we got to go through this together!” Brandon wrote and shared a photo from Disney Night.
“I hope I helped give you an experience that you’ll remember forever! We share a lot of good times, tough times and all the times in between but mainly, a lot of laughs!” he added. “Mainly you laughing at me but hey I’ll take it! 😂thank you for giving me such an amazing season! We will all be praying for a speedy recovery! ❤️ #teamdreamofjeannie always! 🙏🏽🔥”
