Ryan Seacrest Drops Major New Year’s Eve Secrets
Ryan Seacrest gets to work on New Year’s Eve. That would be a bummer for most people, but not for this guy. He’s been hosting Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve since 2006. He’s become a pro at it by now. However, that wasn’t always the case.
The American Idol host is sharing some of his NYE secrets. He recalled the first time he hosted the live New Year’s Eve party on television. He’s also dishing on who he’s planning to kiss at midnight. The busy man also has a new co-host this year.
Scary first year hosting New Year’s Eve
Seacrest looks like he knows what he’s doing. He’s good at keeping his cool on live TV. During his interview on Good Morning America, he reflected on the best and worst moments of the decade. He looked all the way back to 2006, when he hosted the New Year’s Eve special for the very first time.
“I was terrified,” he admitted. “I was stepping into a show that is such a franchise with a legend Dick Clark – all I wanted to do was prove myself that year and be invited back. As Mariah [Carey] was talking and I was working I wasn’t paying attention to a thing because my heart was pounding so much.”
This year is Seacrest’s 15th consecutive year hosting the special, which is expected to include a lineup of guests, performances and more. Viewers can expect performances by BTS, Post Malone, and Sam Hunt. In addition, the Jonas Brothers will sing live from Miami and Sheryl Crow will perform all the way from New Orleans, where Pose star Billy Porter will co-host for the first time.
There’s also a Los Angeles party with co-hosts Ciara and Dupa Lipa. It’s expected to be the biggest part yet, even for those not partying at home. That’s because this year also marks the 48th anniversary of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
Who is co-hosting with Ryan Seacrest tonight?
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve will start at 8 p.m. ET and will air five hours of live entertainment and celebrations from New York City and across the country. Since Jenny McCarthy stepped down from her decade-long role as co-host, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale will be stepping in this year.
“We’ve got the whole country covered – Lucy Hale is going to co-host with me here in Times Square, she’s fantastic so I’m excited about that,” he told GMA.

This will be Hale’s first time co-hosting the New York City side of the special. She has previous experience with hosting on New Year’s Eve. Last year, she hosted the Central Time countdown in New Orleans. Hale is very happy about this opportunity and can’t wait to count down to the new year with viewers far and wide.
“This is hands down one of the coolest moments of my life,” Hale tweeted on Saturday, Dec. 28. “I’m so grateful to ring in the new year with all of you in NYC!”
‘American Idol’ host reveals Shayna Taylor will be his NYE kiss
Seacrest knows who he plans to kiss at midnight in Times Square. He can take a break from his hosting gig to smooch his girlfriend Shayna Taylor. The 45-year-old revealed the details in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on Monday, Dec. 30.
“Shayna will be with me, so she will [be my kiss],” he said. “Or Post Malone. I don’t know. It could go either way … It depends who’s closest, I guess.”
The couple first dated in March 2013 but broke up two years later. Then in 2016, Seacrest and Taylor reunited and dated for three years before ending their relationship in February. The couple has since reconciled after they were spotted at the New York City Ballet Fall Gala. According to a People report, the radio personality said he hoped to spend the holidays with his family and the personal chef by his side.
He doesn’t have a New Year’s resolution
When it comes to setting a resolution of his own, he admits that he always struggles with it. Instead of exercising, he would rather avoid the gym the first few weeks of the New Year. Seacrest joked that he would rather wait until the third week of January to start his new workout routine.
