Harry Hamlin Was Concerned That ‘RHOBH’ Could Impact His Marriage
Harry Hamlin revealed that he was concerned about his marriage to Lisa Rinna long before she starred on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The actor needed to protect himself, just in case anything happened. In a new interview, the 68-year-old got candid about his marriage to the RHOBH star. The couple celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in March, and Rinna has starred on the show for five seasons.
Harry Hamlin reveals that he has his ‘divorce lawyer on speed dial’
Although their marriage appears strong, he does worry about it. In a profile with The Daily Beast published on Monday, Dec. 16, Hamlin revealed he wasn’t on board with doing the reality show. He knows that reality shows are the kiss of death for most married couples. Divorce wasn’t on his mind. But Hamlin knew he had to have backup, just in case.
“I have my divorce lawyer on speed dial, and I do,” said Hamlin. “I have had three opportunities to use him: once with Ursula, and two of my ex-wives.”
Hamlin was previously married to Laura Johnson and Nicollette Sheridan. He’s very content with his divorce lawyer. But that doesn’t mean he wants to use him again.
“It’s the same guy every time. We send Christmas cards to each other every year,” said Hamlin.
Lisa Rinna’s husband was reluctant about appearing on ‘RHOBH’
Then he brought up his concerns about Rinna starring on RHOBH. At first, he persuaded her not to do appear on the reality show even though they had their own reality series, Harry Loves Lisa, on TV Land. That’s when he revealed there is something like shows similar to RHOBH that bothered him.
“I said to Lisa, ‘You can’t do this. Everybody who does that show gets divorced. It’s a horrible, horrible thing, to do that show.”
Hamlin had a change of heart when he spoke to Rinna’s good friend, former Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel.
“Bethenny convinced me from a branding point of view it would be a good thing to do,” Hamlin added. “Then I was open to doing it on my own terms.”
The Mad Men actor revealed that he doesn’t make frequent appearances on the show. Since he didn’t sign a contract, he can appear on the show whenever he wants to. And even though he can call his divorce lawyer at any given time, he has no intention of calling him anytime soon.
The secrets to the success of their reality TV marriage
Rinna often uses social media to give fans an update on her daughters Delilah Belle Hamlin and Amelia Gray Hamlin. However, there is one person in her life who refuses to follow the trio: Harry Hamlin. He made this startling revelation during his Dec. 4 appearance on Live with Kelly & Ryan.
“I do not follow my family [on social media]. I have been told that it would be very smart for me to just ignore what they do online,” said Hamlin. “I don’t watch the message boards. I don’t read reviews, and I don’t look at Lisa’s posts.”
Not following his famous wife on social media is the secret of their successful marriage. The reason why their marriage has lasted so long is because they’re “great friends” and they “really like each other.” He also joked that their sex life has something to do with it.
It also helps that they each have their own interests. In addition, Hamlin has become a devoted family man after the birth of their two children. That’s helped bring the family together. As previously reported via TV Shows Ace, Hamlin revealed that “sparks” flew the first time he met Rinna, and it seems like their relationship has remained strong since.
