Netflix Announces Shadow And Bone Cast
Netflix made a big announcement when they shared on Instagram, “Welcome to the Grishaverse!!”
With this post, they announced the cast for their new fantasy series, Shadow and Bone. The series is based on the books by Leigh Bardugo, and promises to be a contender for the Game of Thrones audience, just like the other Netflix series, The Witcher.
Starring in the new series is Westwood star Ben Barnes, as the sexy and evil General Kirigan (aka the Darkling), Freddy Carter (Wonder Woman) as Kaz Brekker, Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in Soho) as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux (Voyager) as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman (Doctor Who) as Inej, and Kit Young (Endeavour) as Jesper Fahey.
What Is Shadow And Bone About?
Like Game of Thrones, this epic fantasy series is a coming of age story. The story takes place in Ravka, a sort of Eastern-Bloc country that has seen better days. It has been infiltrated by the darkness of the Shadow Fold, where monsters like to feast on humans.
The fate of Ravka depends on one person, Alina Starkov, who can lead the county back to unity and light. Alina is taken to be trained by the Grisha, to lead her people out of darkness.

When Will Netflix Release Shadow And Bone?
When should Shadow and Bone fans expect the new series? Netflix has not made any announcements on when the series should be dropped. One clue is that although the cast has been announced, they have already worked together. According to Yahoo, who shared a statement from author Leigh Bardugo, the cast has already begun working. She has seen the actors take over the roles she has created and she greatly approves of the Netflix casting. In fact, she calls the casting “pure magic”!
“I was so wary going into this process because these characters have lived in my head for so long. Turns out I had nothing to fear. Watching these actors begin to inhabit these roles has been pure magic.”
In an Instagram post, Bardugo has revealed that she is headed to Budapest next month to see the filming of Shadow and Bone. Again, we don’t know if they have already been filming the series, or if she is checking it out in the midst of filming. Bridgerton author Julia Quinn just visited London on the set of the Shondaland Netflix series. It seems that using bestselling series is Netflix’s recipe for creating new and exciting series.
