‘This Is Us’ Star Chris Sullivan Welcomes Baby Boy
The This Is Us family has grown! Chris Sullivan, who plays Toby Damon on the NBC drama, is a new dad. He and his wife welcomed their son to the world on Tuesday, July 28 at 10:02 p.m. He weighs 8 lbs., 1 oz., and measures 20½ inches long.
Sullivan confirmed the news to PEOPLE exclusively on Thursday, July 30. He revealed the baby’s name to the outlet as well. The couple decided to name their son Bear Maxwell.
Sullivan explains how they shared the baby’s name with their family. He says, “As far as the name announcement goes, we designed a puzzle to send to our family members as a fun way to announce his name and to keep us all connected during quarantine — kind of a group activity to reach across the land. It’s both information and something to do. And the reveal of our first son’s name.”
The This Is Us star continues, “Everybody had a great time. It was kind of set up like a contest — everyone had a time when they could start and everyone had to send us a photo when it was finished.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it might be a while before the Sullivans can introduce their son to everyone in person. Sullivan adds, “Everyone is very excited to meet Bear, and hopefully in the next few months, we’ll be able to introduce him to all of his friends and family.”

On Instagram on Thursday evening, Sullivan shared the news himself on his personal page. He shared a photo of his newborn son’s feet along with a lengthy message, praising Rachel. He writes, “Witnessing @therealrachelsullivan bring our first son into this world, after 20 hours of labor, was one of the great honors of my life. It was primal and intentional and I have never been more in love with this powerful woman.”

Then, the This Is Us star updates his followers on his wife’s and son’s status, writing, “She and baby are resting and recovering well. Everyone is healthy and exhausted.”
So far, Rachel has yet to share an Instagram post about her son’s arrival. Of course, as mentioned by her husband, she’s exhausted. So, fans can look for an update from her soon.
The couple first revealed that they had a baby on the way in January. At the same time, they shared that their baby is a boy. This is their first child.
