Fans Clamor For Season 2 of Netflix’s ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’: What We Know So Far
The Baby-Sitters Club is open for business again!
It’s a scenario that strikes fear in our nostalgic hearts: reboots of our childhood favorite movies and books. The last few years have brought back the late 1980s and early 90s with reboots. Party of Five, Saved By The Bell and Punky Brewster are just three television reboots for 2020.
The Party of Five reboot wasn’t well-received by viewers and cancelled after one season. Saved By The Bell and Punky Brewster come to NBC’s Peacock streaming service later this year. Likewise, Keanu Reeves will be on big screens in a new Bill & Ted movie this summer.
So, when women in their 30s or older first heard that Netflix was making The Baby-Sitters Club into a series, we were nervous. Netflix is hit and miss with 80s/90s reboots. A retelling of the Anne of Green Gables books, Anne With An E, lasted just three seasons.
The new BSC dropped on Friday, July 3, and it’s already one of the most-talked-about binge-sessions of the weekend. And it premiered the same day Hamilton came to Disney+. And the BSC reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
What is The Baby-Sitters Club?
If you didn’t grow up in the 80s, you may not get what all the fuss is about. The Baby-Sitters Club is a series of books by the author Ann M. Martin. The series premiered in 1986 with Kristy’s Big Idea. Her idea is, of course, to start a baby-sitting business with some of her closest friends.
The four original members of the BSC are Kristy Thomas, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Mary Anne Spier. Dawn Schafer joins the club later. One subplot in the books is the wedding of Kristy’s mom. Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone plays Kristy’s mom in the Netflix series.
The books follow the girls on their baby-sitting adventures, as well as traversing the awkward stage of the 7th grade. Each girl is the center of different books in the series. For example, some of the other books titles are Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls and The Truth About Stacey.
All told, there are over 100 books in the BSC series. 131, to be exact. Season 1 of the Netflix show focuses on the first eight books, even using the same titles.
Netflix Reboot a Hit With Viewers
The Baby-Sitters Club is a huge part in 80s and 90s pop culture. Netflix isn’t the first to reboot the books. In 1990, HBO revived the books in a 13-episode series. A film starring Rachael Leigh Cook came out in 1995.
Entertainment Tonight reports that Rachel Leigh Cook (She’s All That) is open to appearing on the Netflix series if it returns.
Fans are hoping that Netflix does bring the series back for more! The overall consensus is that the Netflix adaptation hit all the right notes without being overly cheesy. The new BSC made some changes in the ethnicities of some characters. Representation wasn’t really a thing in the 1980s.
Needless to say, with positive reviews from critics AND viewers, fans want more of Kristy and club. One fan wrote that she “loved every second” of the show. Furthermore, she states that the show “needs to be renewed for Season 2.”

Many fans agreed and hope Netflix brings the show back for more baby-sitting adventures. Netflix has yet to announce any plans for a Season 2, but check back with us for updates.
