‘Finding My Roots’ Joy Behar Freaks Over Near Incestual Connection
Audiences have come to know Joy Behar from her hosting duties on The View. However, viewers got the chance to learn a little more about the TV personality after she appeared on the PBS series, Finding Your Roots. While there, a shocking story concerning Behar’s family history came to light.
Joy Behar Learned About Her Family’s Life In A Small Italian Village
Originally a stand-up comedian, Behar first came to promience as a co-host on The View. First appearing on the show in 1997, she was one of the show’s original panelists. Behar briefly departed from the series back in 2013, only to return in 2015.
The TV personality recently made an appearance on the PBS documentary series, Finding Your Roots. Hosted by historian and filmmaker Henry Louis Gates Jr., each episode features celebrity guests who are given a “book of life.” Though it, they learn about their family history, as compiled by professional genealogists.
The second episode of Season 11, “La Famiglia,” featured Joy Behar and Michael Imperioli as the special guests. In the episode, which came out on January 14, 2025, Behar learned about her family’s background in a small Italian village.
As noted by People, the host identified two of Behar’s great grandparents, Saverio and Maria Rosa. However, she didn’t immediately recognize those names.
Eventually, Gates Jr. was shown “another branch” of her family. While there, the host shared something surprising to Behar.
Behar’s Also Shared Some Family Advice In A Promotional Video
The host asked her, “Do you see where the family was living when your grandfather was born?” Behar noted, “Via Ferrari 15.” Gates Jr. continued, “Obviously the houses have been rebuilt since your grandfather’s side. But the science of the structures and the surrounding landscape are all likely very similar.”
The host continued, “Look at number 15 on the right.” He continued, “Just across the street is number eight. That’s a very important address for your family, because that’s where your mom’s father lived.” During the episode, it had come to light that her maternal and paternal grandfathers lived near each other.

A shocked Behar replied, “What they were living across the street? I mean, it’s almost incestuous what we’re talking about here.” Gates Jr. commented, “You look out the window and there was the object of your desire right there.”
Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s Instagram page also promoted Behar’s appearance with a video of the TV personality. As noted in the caption, “[Joy Behar] shares with us the best advice she’s received from a family member—wise words you’ll want to hear!” She revealed it to be, “Don’t spit up in the air, it comes back in your face.”
