Wendy Williams Health Concerns Sending Mixed Signals
The Wendy Williams saga continues. The beloved former talk show host has been suffering from dementia. She has a guardian who has reportedly cut her off from all her friends and family. Her family says that Williams’ entire fortune disappeared when the guardian took control of her money. Her family also says that she isn’t as sick as the caretaker has made it seem.
Here is what we know about Wendy Williams, her caretaker’s claims, and her family’s pleas.
What Has Wendy Williams Guardian Said About Her Health?
Wendy Williams’ official diagnosis is dementia and aphasia, delivered just two years after it was revealed she was already suffering from Grave’s Disease and Lymphedema. “In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD),” the press release reads (via The Root).
According to Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, she is now permanently incapacitated. This news came out in November 2024. This was sad since earlier in 2024, she went shopping with her son, and people who saw her said she was “still cognitive enough to do many things for herself.”
However, in December, an Instagram video showed Wendy getting food from a seafood restaurant. She sat in the back of a vehicle, laughed, and talked with the workers. One commenter asked, “What exactly does incapacitated mean?”
Her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, also filed a “Grievance Committee” against Morrissey and claimed she has no legal rights to withhold information about Wendy’s financial records. He said Wendy owes him money, while Morrissey said the former talk show host’s multi-million dollar fortune is already gone.
What Has Wendy Williams’ Family Claimed About Her Safety?
The big problem is that the diagnosis came from her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. Wendy Williams’ family and friends say that it is not true. They noted that Morrissey is keeping Williams cut off from her loved ones, and she is not as impaired as the woman claims.
Wendy’s brother is selling “Free Wendy” merchandise. This means he brings more attention to his sister’s plight and makes some money off her condition. At the same time, her son said that his mother is now “sober.” He said she wants to return home, but Morrissey won’t allow it.
Another video was posted on Instagram in December, in which Williams yelled at her team when they left her mobility scooter unattended (via The Root). This video once again calls into question Morrissey’s claims that Wendy is “incapacitated” and “permanently disabled.”
