Los Angeles Wildfires Impacting Multiple Show Productions, Details

The Los Angeles area has recently been impacted by dangerous wildfires, considered one the most destructive in the city’s history. Due to the fires, various television series have had their productions halted. Notably, both scripted and unscripted shows have been impacted by the shutdown.

Various Companies Closed Production On Wednesday

The recent wildfires erupted this past Tuesday, impacting the Los Angeles area. Thousands of buildings have been damaged or destroyed. In addition, thousands have been called to evacuate, with at least five people dying from the fire.

Los Angeles is known as the entertainment capital of the world, with a prominent history in film and television. The natural disaster has since greatly impacted production on various television series.

As shared by Deadline, Warner Bros. has currently closed its studio tour in addition to shutting down production in Burbank. Some show impacted include Abbott Elementary, All American, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. New and upcoming shows, like The Pitt and a Leanne Morgan project, have also been halted.

20th Television series that have been affected include Grey’s Anatomy and Doctor Odyssey. CBS Studios also halted production on shows like NCIS and NCIS: Origins, which film in Santa Clarita and the Paramount lot, respectively.

NBCUniversal has also recently closed its lower lot at Universal Studios. This means Hacks, Happy’s Place, Loot, Suits L.A., and Ted have had production delayed. The Universal Studios theme park had also been closed due to the fire.

Various late-night shows have also suspended tapings. This included Jimmy Kimmel Live for ABC and After Midnight for CBS.

Some Los Angeles-Based Shows Were Working Remotely

The news came out in Wednesday, when these shows were set to film or rehearse. Some Los Angeles-based shows at the time, however, were working remotely and might not have been directly impacted. These include sitcoms like The Neighborhood and Poppa’s House.

In addition to the television show suspensions, various promotional events have also been canceled. This included an in-person press event for the upcoming Tim Allen sitcom, Shifting Gears. The premiere of the medical drama, The Pitt, was also delayed.

According to NBC News, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna shared that at least 180,000 people have been evacuated due to the fire. He confirmed that five people have lost their lives in the blaze, but there weren’t additional details about the death.

Luna also confirmed that more searches are needed to confirm the final death toll. As he shared in a statement, “There is a lot of damage out there.”

“As this challenging and ongoing situation unfolds, our focus remains on the safety and well-being of residents, visitors and first responders in affected areas across our City. We urge everyone to stay informed through the Los Angeles Fire Department to follow all warnings and evacuation orders from first responders.”
