Ree Drummond’s Daughter Alex Hospitalized After Giving Birth

Alex Drummond Scott Gives Birth

Alex Drummond Scott, 27, is one of five siblings. She and her husband Mauricio got married on May 1, 2021. She grew up in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on the family ranch. The ranch was infamous for the show ‘ The Pioneer Woman‘.  Although Alex said her pregnancy was considered “high Risk” in mid-December the couple welcomed a healthy baby into the world named, Sofia. However, the couple’s excitement quickly turned into a challenging experience after they left the hospital and returned home with their newborn.

Alex Drummond Scott’s Baby Complications

Alex recently shared a candid account of a health scare she faced following the birth of her first child, Sofia, in December 2024. In a detailed Instagram post which she has since deleted, but has been recovered and republished by ‘Taste of Country’. Alex explained that her delivery had gone smoothly. After a difficult start scheduling the induction, Sofia was born in 10 minutes, once the pushing began. However, Alex was released from the hospital but things took a drastic change the day after. She noticed some severe swelling in her legs, a symptom she hadn’t experienced during the whole pregnancy. She checked her blood pressure and said it was “alarmingly high” Alex called her doctor and went back to the hospital.

Alex’s Diagnosis

At the hospital, Alex was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia. This condition is serious and can occur after childbirth, which requires immediate medical attention. She was on a 24-hour IV magnesium drip. A treatment that she described as one of the worst experiences of her life. The combination of the magnesium side effects, her postpartum hormones, and the emotional stress of being separated from her newborn left Alex feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.  Despite the situation, She expressed deep gratitude for her family’s support during her hospitalization. However, she thanked her Mom Ree Drummond for stepping in to help with the newborn, Sofia, and her sisters for staying at the hospital with her. Thankfully after treatment, Alex’s health improved. She was able to reunite with her baby, and the family was able to celebrate their first Christmas together.

Today, both Alex and baby Sofia are doing well, and the experience serves as a reminder of the unexpended situations that can arise during the postpartum period. However, the delivery went well but even just 24 hours later Alex being back in the hospital was a shock to all her fans. What do you think is the next step for Alex and Mauricio?
