Lawyer Denies Blackmailing Jay-Z In Diddy Rape Allegations
Attorney Tony Buzbee has been busy, thanks to Diddy. The attorney who has made his name by suing the rich and famous over the years is taking on a lot of clients recently. He has been accused of blackmailing celebs with lawsuits if they don’t pay his clients. Now, Jay-Z is also accusing him of blackmail when he filed a lawsuit accusing the rapper of sexual assault on a minor.
Here is what you need to know.
Jay-Z Accused Of Sexual Assault Of A Minor
High-profile attorney Tony Buzbee is suing Jay-Z and Diddy on behalf of a woman who alleges that they sexually assaulted her when she was a child. The alleged assault happened in 2000 when she was at an afterparty that Jay-Z and Diddy were both at.
However, Jay-Z fired back and claimed that the lawsuit had come when a woman demanded a payoff from him, but he refused her. The accuser is only known as Jane Doe and she is suing Jay-Z, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and an unnamed female celebrity that she claims was watching the assault.
Jay-Z sued Buzbee for blackmail and said that he would expose the lawyer for the “fraud” that he is.
That said, Buzbee said his client never asked Jay-Z for “a penny” and that Jay-Z sued his firm for suing him. “Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff. His conduct has had the opposite impact. She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve.”
Tony Buzbee Says This Lawsuit Isn’t Blackmail
Tony Buzbee says there was no blackmail, and this is a legitimate lawsuit. Buzbee said the letter to the rapper was a “standard demand letter” his client “approved.” He also said it isn’t blackmail because it is a lawsuit, and no one has “made any threats.”
He then quoted Shakespeare and said, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” That line from Hamlet implies a person who denies accusations too strongly is often guilty. “Let me be clear: We will not be bullied or intimated by these shenanigans. And our clients won’t be silenced” (via The U.S. Sun).
This also comes after Buzbee publicly commented that celebrities who attended the Freak-Offs better pay his clients or they will sue each of them publically. At least one celebrity has filed criminal charges against Buzbee for extortion, which the attorney has also denied. Instead, Buzbee said he won’t be bullied out of defending a sexual assault victim.
What are your thoughts on all the lawsuits that Tony Buzbee is threatening? Does he have a point that asking for money to bypass lawsuits doesn’t equate to blackmail? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
