With the Blue Bloods series finale just days away from airing, the fanbase at large is still hurt over the fact that the show got the ax instead of being renewed for more seasons. In countless comments on social media and more, fans are dreading the end of this series, and with good reason.
Whether fans like it or not, the final episode of Blue Bloods will air on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 10 pm ET on CBS. This brings to a close a show that countless families brought into their homes over the years, and it’s a show that will be greatly missed by all those who have been keeping up with it for all this time.
Donnie Wahlberg Opens Up About Filming Final Dinner Scene
The family dinner scenes on Blue Bloods were a signature of the program. Every member of the Reagan family would discuss what they did on the job, and it was a time for the characters to bond, much like the real families who watched the show.
Recently, actor Donnie Wahlberg opened up about what it was like to film the final family dinner scene for Blue Bloods. Wahlberg said: “I remember showing up that morning and there were much, much more crew members watching than usual. There’s usually a lot, everyone comes in and watches the rehearsals and sometimes we’ll say a little something. I might say, “It’s going to be a great day” and I’ll get everyone all fired up and stuff. We’ll improvise some lines just to get a few laughs and such. But this day, I think everyone was really hanging on and again, trying to stay present and focus on the work and make sure we did the work well, but also trying not to get lost in the emotion of it all.”
Donnie Wahlberg Reflects On Moments After Blue Bloods Scene Wrapped
Speaking of the moment that filming was finished on this last dinner sequence, Wahlberg said: “I think when we finished filming is what I’ll remember most. We all just kind of sat there for a long time, and I think everyone was hesitating to say something to say goodbye because A, nobody wanted to, and B, everyone knew once somebody starts talking, it’s a wrap. The tissues are coming out and everyone’s going to start crying, and sure enough they did.”
Wahlberg continued, saying: “I remember Tom read a poem — or, he didn’t read it. He’d memorized the poem and recited it. He’s known the poem for years, and he did that from time to time. He would say a poem or he would quote some old famous saying or something. He would always just drop these sage little things upon us at dinner from time to time.”
