‘Days Of Our Lives’ Wayne Northrop Dead At 77
Actor Wayne Northrop, who is known for his roles on Days of Our Lives and Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 77. A publicist for the actor shared the news, with his wife releasing an additional statement. Notably, Northrop had made quite a notable career appearing in a variety of soaps.
Northrop’s Wife Also Shared A Statement
The news was shared by Northrop’s publicist in a statement to TVLine. It was noted that the actor died in his home this past Friday.
Lynn Herring Northrop, Northrop’s wife and fellow soap alum, shared in a statement that, “Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago.” She continued to note that, “He took his last breath in the arms of his family.”
The statement, which was reported by Deadline, continued that, “We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”
Northrop played the chauffeur Michael Culhane on the prime-time soap opera Dynasty. Notably, Northrop appeared in the role from the pilot episode to the first season’s finale. He later returned to the role during the soap’s seventh season.
Northrop Had Quite A Career In The World Of Soaps
The actor also notably played Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives. First appearing in 1981, he appeared in the role well into the 1990s. During this time, he also briefly appeared as the character André DiMera.
In 2005, Northrop returned to the soap as a different character, Dr. Alex North. Northrop’s last appearance as the character was towards the end of 2006. Scenes of his work as Roman were notably used on the soap as part of his new character’s backstory.

As TV Line noted, the actor’s passing comes nine weeks following the death of fellow Days of Our Lives alum, Drake Hogestyn. His character, John Black, was initially believed to be Roman after having undergone plastic surgery and brainwashing.
In addition to this, Northrop also notably played Rexford “Rex” Stanton on the General Hospital spin-off Port Charles. He appeared in this role from 1997 to 1998.
As noted, Northrop ‘s wife, Sheryl Lynn Herring, also known as Lynn Herring, also has had quite a career in soaps. Notably, she played Lucy Coe on General Hospital. She also made appearances on Port Charles, Days of Our Lives, and As the World Turns.
