James Van Der Beek Sells ‘Varsity Blues’ Jerseys To Fight Cancer
Actor James Van Der Beek recently shared his cancer diagnosis with fans. Since then, the actor has recently opened up about the financial toll that has come with such health concerns. In fact, the actor recently released a promotion to support himself and other families enduring such medical issues.
James Van Der Beek Recently Shared His Cancer Diagnosis
Van Der Beek first came to prominence playing the title character in Dawson’s Creek. He has also appeared in a variety of notable films, including Varsity Blues, Texas Rangers, and The Rules of Attraction.
Recently, however, the actor has announced that he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He recently gave fans an update over his condition on social media.
Taking to Instagram, Van Der Beek shared, “Merch drop! Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey—each one personally autographed by me. Grab yours now at the link in my bio or head over to JVDB.Shop.”
Van Der Beek noted that the promotion will help support his family, as well as other families impacted by cancer. As the post shared, “100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own.)”
The Actor Also Thanked His Family For Their Support
In a later post, he noted, “Order now & get a signed one in time for Christmas,” he wrote on Friday.” He paired this with a hashtag, “#CancerIsExpensive” and a heart emoji.
In the film, Van Der Beek played Jonathan “Mox” Moxon, an academically gifted quarterback in a story revolving around high school football. The character is known for the quote, “Football is a way of life.”

As noted by US Weekly, Van Der Beek has been relying on his family for support during this time. In another recent post, the actor noted, “It’s been a tough year… and I’m thankful for all of it.”
“For the giant life re-direct cancer has placed in my path. For the gift of knowing what it feels like to have friends come through on such a profound level, and in ways I never would have been able to ask for had I not been going through it.”

Ending the post, the actor wished fans a happy Thanksgiving. He also thanked Claiborne Swanson Frank for the accompanying photo.
