Why Whoopi Goldberg Wishes She Could Leave ‘The View’
Whoopi Goldberg is trying to let fans know that she is one of them. While a very wealthy woman, she wants to relate to her fans as a fellow “working person.” She even says she wouldn’t be working on The View if she didn’t need the money.
Here is what Whoopi had to say about how she relates to working-class people everywhere.
Whoopi Goldberg Says She Is Working Class
Whoopi Goldberg has co-hosted The View since 2007, making her the longest-tenured cast member of the talk show. While she is paid a nice sum for this role, Goldberg said that she relates to all the Americans who struggle to make it day to day.
“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me too. I work for a living,” Whoopi said (via Yahoo Finance). “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?… My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there.”
Interestingly, while Whoopi has a lot of money, it is easy to lose it fast. Francis Ford Coppola, for example, has filed for bankruptcy three times. He is also the Oscar-winning director of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and more. For Whoopi, she says she still has to work to pay the bills for her and her family.
With a majority of Americans working paycheck to paycheck as prices continue to rise, it is not something that many The View viewers might relate to.
What Is Whoopi Goldberg’s Net Worth
While Whoopi Goldberg says she is working class and wouldn’t be on The View if she didn’t need the money, her net worth might make it hard for fans to relate. Goldberg has a reported net worth of $30 million (via Celebrity Net Worth).
Now, it should be noted that net worth includes everything a person owns, so her homes and retirement funds add to this total. However, if Whoopi needed money, she could sell things and have more money than almost every average American could make in a lifetime.
Whoopi’s annual salary is reportedly $8 million, much higher than most Americans could ever dream of making. It is a nice thought, but many fans might find it hard to see Whoopi as an equal in the working class.
