Kaley Cuoco Reveals She Got Rid Of Furbaby Before Her Sad Death
Actress Kaley Cuoco recently opened up about the passing of her dog Shirley. In a recent post on social media, she revealed that she had to place Shirley in another home. Through the post, she also revealed a few details about Shirley’s death and final years.
Kaley Cuoco Explained What Shirley’s Final Years Were Like
Cuoco first came to prominence as Bridget Hennessy on the sitcom 8 Simple Rules. However, for many, her breakout role would be playing Penny on The Big Bang Theory. Some of the actress’ other notable roles include the witch Billie Jenkins on Charmed and voicing the title role in the animated Harley Quinn series.
This past Sunday, the actress opened up about a recent loss. Cuoco’s dog, Shirley, had recently died of cancer.
As she shared in an Instagram Reel, Cuoco discussed how Shirley had to leave her home shortly before her death. The actress attributed this to fights Shirley was having with a dog belonging to her fiancé Tom Pelphrey.
As noted by People, Cuoco noted, “Most of you know I had [Shirley] for many, many, many years.” She continued, “All of a sudden, you kind of stopped seeing her, and I started to get a lot of questions as to where she was, because it’s very unlike me to just stop posting about a dog that I’ve had since she was 6 weeks old.”
The actress then summed it up: “Long story short, she’s a very special dog to me, as you all know.” As she continued, “The love of my life came into my life, Tom, who is also a mega dog lover, and he moved across the country with his beautiful German Shepherd, Blue, a couple years ago.”
As previously reported, Blue has also since passed on with Cuoco sharing a tribute to him back in March. However, the actress noted that, “Unfortunately, Blue and Shirley started getting into some mega fights.” Cuoco even claimed Shirley was “determined to kill” Blue.
Cuoco Was Worried Another Dog Or Person Would ‘Get Hurt’
The actress noted that Shirley had also fought with other dogs. One exception to this was Norman, another dog of Cuoco whom Shirley grew up with. Norman is also notably the namesake of Cuoco’s pet brand, “Oh Norman!,” and her production company, “Yes, Norman Productions.”
As Cuoco admitted, “I loved her so much, but I was really scared.” She continued that, “I didn’t want something really bad to happen or possibly a person accidentally be there and get hurt.” It was decided that Shirley would need another home.

The actress revealed her pet handler Tony and his wife Angie offered to care of Shirley. She noted, “They have loved her so so much, and it was an excruciating decision.”
Cuoco then revealed the details of Shirley’s death. As she explained, “She got a very aggressive bone cancer that came on very quickly.”
“She was almost 14 years old, which is an unbelievable life for a dog. And I just wanted to share her story and what we had to do.”
