Joan Vassos Shares Dating Tips Learned On ‘Golden Bachelorette’
Joan Vassos waded into the dating pool on The Golden Bachelor two years after her husband of over 30 years passed away. She didn’t find a match in Gerry Turner, but gave it another try on The Golden Bachelorette. After dating twenty-four men, she shared what she learned about dating with her social media followers. Keep reading to find out what she said.
Joan Vassos Didn’t Have Luck With Online Dating
Joan Vassos was married to her first husband, John, for 32 years. He passed away in 2021 after a battle with cancer. She joined the first season of The Golden Bachelor with the hope of finding love for the second time. However, she never got a chance to see a spark with Gerry Turner. Joan decided to go home just a few episodes into the season to handle a family matter.
The network brought her back to star as the first Golden Bachelorette. Her season premiered in September. Viewers find out who she hands her final rose to on November 13.
At some point after her husband’s death, Joan Vassos gave online dating a try. But it did not go well. She previously shared a story of how the person she was meeting was nothing like they portrayed online. She swore off online dating after the fiasco.
Things She Learned About Dating On The Golden Bachelorette
Being the first Golden Bachelorette was a learning experience for Joan Vassos. She recently told Entertainment Weekly that she had trouble dealing with her growing feelings for her suitors while still being in love with her late husband.
Joan took to her Instagram ahead of the Golden Bachelorette season finale to share some words of wisdom with her followers. “Some dating advice I learned along the way,” she captioned the video.
Her first piece of advice was that expecting kindness, reciprocity, and respect from someone you’re dating is the “bare minimum.” Joan encouraged her followers not to settle for less than that or to get impressed by simple compliments.

Secondly, she warned her followers about getting caught up in the idea of love at first sight. Joan said it was okay not to be sure of someone when you first start dating them. It takes time to get to know someone, she added.
Her third piece of advice was that no one has to prove they are “good enough” for love. Joan said that everyone deserves love. She ended the video with one more piece of advice: “Communication is key,” she said. She encouraged her followers to set boundaries and ask the hard questions.
Do you think she used any of her own advice with her suitors?
