‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Players Reveal Strategy Of Picking Best Letters
Through the years, Wheel Of Fortune has updated and revised how they do their Bonus Round. While some letters are given, the contestants still need to add as many winning letters to help them solve the tricky puzzles quickly. Now past Wheel Of Fortune players are revealing their strategies for picking the best letters during the Bonus Round.
Wheel Of Fortune Bonus Round Has Evolved Through The Years
Since Wheel Of Fortune began including the Bonus Round in 1975, several changes have occurred. Not only have there been other names for the game where players gain an extra chance at money, but the gameplay has had different rules along the way. At one point there was a Shopper’s Special and Star Bonus. During the early years, contestants had to name their own consonants and vowel combinations. Notably, most players would choose some variety of R, S, T, L, N, and E. While the current Bonus Round had some testing in 1981, it became a permanent staple of the show in 1982.
Likewise, the popular combination R, S, T, L, N, and E, became the “give mes” for the player. Currently, players meet with host, Ryan Seacrest, and spin the tabletop wheel for their chance at extra winnings. Then, this gives them the chance for prizes ranging anywhere from $40,000 to $100,000. Furthermore, contestants have a shot at landing on the evasive $1 Million prize wedge.
But is there some rhyme or reason behind picking other letters to help solve the puzzle in the short 10 seconds provided? Some past players believe the answer is, “Yes.” Now contestants reveal their strategies for picking the best letters during the bonus.
Wheel Of Fortune Players Reveal Strategy Of Picking Best Letters
Wheel Of Fortune fans are talking about the “secret” formula contestants can use to help them solve most Bonus Round puzzles. On Reddit, fans and past players discuss what methods work best for picking letters during the Bonus Round. First, a user says, “What are the best letters to pick during the bonus round?”
- One former contestant said, “I had a spreadsheet for this prepared for my appearance. I took every bonus round in season 40 and found the most common letters used other than RSTLNE.” Then, they add, “I think I omitted ‘What Are You Doing’ categories because of the prevalence of the letter G in those.” Furthermore, they say, “Anyway the most common three consonants + vowel were PHG-A.” However, they also reveal, “I used those letters on both my bonus rounds… and lost both. Lol.”
- Another Redditor shares that F, D, Y, and O are the best picks. Further advising that G isn’t a good option. “FDYO are the best letters to pick, excluding ‘unhelpful’ letters like G (most bonus puzzles have an obvious ING), etc.”
- Likewise, someone else weighs in, “I always thought GHYI, but I’ll try FDYO and see if they would work better — Y seems to be the best since can be a consonant or a vowel.”
Luck Of The Draw
While some people believe they have the perfect combinations of letters to give them a boost during the Wheel Of Fortune Bonus Round, others think it is pure speculation.
- “If there’s an obvious T-E or —–N-, I think they’re planning for people to take H, G, or I, and there’s a good chance that’s the only H or G. You can look up letter distributions BUT there is no universal answer. You can use the information you get from RSTLNE to guess. If you think you know one of the words, pick a common letter that’s in that word.”
- “I base this on nothing but conjecture but I feel like the letters that will help the most, not necessarily by being in the puzzle, are ABCD. I know this isn’t the most common letter distribution, but you’d be surprised how many puzzles put themselves within reach by guessing those four and seeing what comes up, or doesn’t.”
