Miami Beach Makes Huge Move Cutting Ties With Diddy

Miami Beach has recently made a move to cut ties with media mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. A special award given to the star has recently been revoked. This comes out amidst the mogul’s recent legal troubles. This also isn’t the first honor that Combs has recently seen rescinded over the past months.

Diddy Received The Honor For His Involvement With The Revolt Music Conference

Around nine years prior, Combs was awarded Miami Beach’s key to the city. However, amidst his ongoing legal issues, the rapper has recently been stripped of this special honor.

Diddy received the honor back in 2015. At the time, this was in tribute to his organizing the Revolt Music Conference in Miami Beach, as well as other contributions to the music industry.

According to TMZ, Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner and the city commission voted on whether to revoke the award at an in-person hearing this past Wednesday. However, news that the city was initially considering revoking the honor was known by early October.

Some of the sponsors included commissioners Joe Magazine, David Suarez, Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, and Alex Fernandez. Reportedly, the party unanimously voted to revoke the honor from Combs. However, the mayor still has to sign off on the decision.

This isn’t the first honor the city had granted and rescinded from the mogul. Back in June, the city revoked October 13th as “Sean Diddy Combs Day.” Combs initially received the honor back in 2016. Much like with they key, the honor initially paid tribute to Comb’s involvement with the Revolt Music Conference. At the time, according to The Independent, the mayor and city commission claimed that Combs was “no longer in harmony with the City’s values of safety, community well-being, and respect.”

The Mogul Was Also Asked To Return Another Key To The City

It was added that, “recent events and public discourse…have raised concerns about whether Mr. Combs’ current public persona aligns with the values and image that the City of Miami Beach seeks to project.” At the time, it was also noted Combs was “a Miami Beach resident.”

This also isn’t the first time Combs had recently had to give up an honorary key to the city following his legal troubles. Back in June, the mogul had to return the key to New York. Reportedly, Mayor Eric Adams requested the return in a letter.

As TMZ noted, the letter was sent June 4th with the key being returned June 10th. According to the publication, the city’s log added the following statement: “This Key to the City was rescinded by Mayor Eric Adams on June 4, 2024, via a formal letter due to actions of domestic and gender-based violence committed by Mr. Combs.”
