Joanna Gaines Gives Glimpse Into Son Drake’s College Dorm
Joanna and Chip Gaines share five kids. Their oldest son Drake Gaines recently started his sophomore year at Baylor University in Waco Texas. Joanna Gaines shared that she typically decorates Drake’s space at college. He has probably the nicest dorm room we’ve ever seen! Even with a professional designer decorating his space Drake couldn’t help but put his spin on things.
Joanna Gaines Decorates Son Drake’s Dorm Room
Chip and Joanna Gaines have five children together Drake, 19, Ella Rose 18, Duke 16, Emmie Kay 14, and Crew six. Their eldest Drake is in his second year of college at Baylor. Drake’s dorm room is probably one of the nicest ones on campus. This is because his mom, and professional designer, Joanna Gaines decorated it for him.
Joanna and Chip appeared on Today, October 22, 2024. They shared with host Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie the details of the move-in process for Drake. Back to school can be very stressful, especially with kids going off to university. Joanna shared that she usually goes the day before moving in to get an idea of the space and develop her plan. She shared “I spend all this time, I plan, I do it.” Just because your mom is a professional designer doesn’t mean you don’t make it your own.
Drake Adds His Touch To Mom Joanna’s Design
Joanna Gaines explained to Hoda and Savannah that soon after leaving Drake at school, she found out he changed her design. She shared…
“Then the day that I leave, he’ll send pictures to his siblings and then they’ll show me. It’s all about lighting. So he wanted more lighting. He bought some lights on Amazon and strung them throughout his whole apartment, now it looks like a club,” Joanna joked “that was not a Joanna project,” and that he “thought it was a fixer upper.”
Drake now has mood lighting throughout his space. Hopefully, that helps him vibe and study. It doesn’t matter if your mom is a world-famous designer, you still need to make the space your own. Joanna Gaines was in good spirits about her son Drake’s addition to her design.
Joanna Shares Her Feelings On Her Oldest Child Leaving Home
It is difficult for all parents when children grow up and move out of the home. Joanna opened up in an article in her publication Magnolia Journal what this process has been like for her. Drake is Joanna and Chip’s oldest child, and this is their first time sending their child off into the world. She shared:
“In the grand scheme of heartbreaking things, this one comes with a lot of gratitude and excitement. Still, my first child is moving away, and our family dynamic will change because of it, and that can feel like a loss of its own.” She confessed “I catch glimpses now of what that life will look like and wonder if — or how many times — that might bring me to the floor.”
This change has been emotional for the Gaines family. They are handling it well though. Thankfully they don’t have to go far to visit with Drake as he is still in Waco at Baylor. He can still come home for family dinner and to do his laundry. Chip and Joanna Gaines have handled this transition with Grace, which is good because they have to do it four more times!
