Wayne Brady Talks Struggles Of Blended Family
Wayne Brady has a blended family but said it wasn’t easy to make it work. Brady shared he had to deal with a lot of therapy to get to where they are. However, he said that it has started to become easier, although he wasn’t sure it would be okay for a while.
Here is what Brady said about his blended family and the struggles that it caused.
Wayne Brady Needed Therapy To Deal With Blended Family
Wayne Brady brought his blended family to reality television with Wayne Brady: Family Remix. This makes it seem like it was a good situation for Brady to sign on for the deal. However, at the same time, there needed to be controversy and tension to make reality TV work.
Each episode showed Wayne and his family (known as the Core Four) in their everyday lives. They include Wayne, his ex-wife, Mandie Taketa, their daughter, Maile Brady, and Mandie’s life partner, Jason. The storylines were unique, including Wayne coming out as pansexual and his worries about how people would accept this. He also said he had a new baby son that no one really knew about.
With that said Wayne added he needed a lot of therapy to get used to his blended family before appearing on the TV show.

Wayne Brady might be divorced from Mandie Taketa, but they are still business partners. According to Mandie, they wanted to “normalize that a family can look whatever way felt safe to you.”
“You don’t have to be blood-related. You have to find your people that have your back, that love you, and are willing to fight for your happiness, as well as take care of themselves at the same time,” Mandie said. This was where Wayne said they needed “so much therapy.”
Wayne added that they wanted to normalize working together and making things work, even while divorced, and moved on to other relationships. He said they are all still family, and they have mental health struggles, but they find ways to deal with it.
When it comes to the therapy that Wayne said he went through to get to a better place, it ended up helping him become more “authentic.” He also said the therapy helped him become a “better father” and “better man.” Finally, Wayne noted that he has since become the happiest he has ever been in his life.
